It keeps going blank

My four year old monitor has started going blank when first turned on. If turned off and turned on again it comes on but goes blank again after a couple of seconds. Any ideas?

Hello,

This is a very common problem with LCD monitors of that age. The heat buildup in the case has cause parts in the power supply called capacitors to blow and short out the power supply. If you can solder you should be able to do the repair yourself. Just go to our web site at: www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm Open your monitor and look for the bad caps like in the pictures. Remove and replace any that you see and you should be back going again. Be sure to use high temp replacements (105c) not like from Radio Shack or you will have to do it all over again in a few months. The values are printed on the sides of the ones you take out usually 220uf, 330uf, 470uf and 1000uf values. We carry them in stock if you need them or they can be ordered from several places on the internet. When you install the replacements be sure to insert them with the polarity stripe going the same direction as the bad ones come out. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service $35 + return shipping. If you have any additional questions just ask.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Blank Screen & flashing button

It is one of three things, One is that it's not recieving a signal, mine flash when the computer is shut down, several monitors do this now. The second is that the either the video card is in need of service, or if you don't have a video card in your machine, it is either a connection that is intermittent, check the other end of the cable, or the monitor is in need of service, there is a circuit board that gives it a boost on start up. How old is the monitor and what brand? all the info is needed to go any further, thanks, if it is 5 years old more or less it is the monitor gone bad, more than likely

Monitor goes to standby mode intermittent.

make sure the video cable is inserted firmly. is it is, the video cable wires are loose inside the monitor which it is not getting the signal, telling it to go on standby mode.

usually this problem is caused by a faulty inverter circuit. transistors might been running too hot or a leaky capacitors also.not an easy task but try looking down for any defects on high voltage sections.

Hi Randygui, Sounds like the back light inverter board is bad. It's a very common problem. LCD's use four small cold compact fluorescent bulbs to back light the display. (thats what gives the LCD it's brightness allowing you to see it) The inverter board runs these lights and when they go bad they will typically show symptoms like you have or the monitor power light comes on and you have either no display or a very dim display. If you ever have one that has no display but the power light is on you can check by shining a flashlight directly into the LCD from the front (right into the screen) if you can see an image then it's either the inverter board (most likely) or the CCFL bulbs have gone bad. The inverter board and CCFL's are replaceable. Good Luck, El Duderino
