Question about Philips 60PP9352 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Picture crooked. skewed torwards bottom right corner.

Hi techs! i recently acquired a phillips 60PP9352 from my g/f's mother who traded up to a plasma. awhile ago this problem started and she was unable to figure out how to fix it and never bothered to try, so i acquired the problem as well :)

the entire image is slanted towards the bottom right corner. this results in the image being cut off a bit at the top and bottom in areas. i've also noticed a slight bowing effect near the top and to the right of center. i've checked all the color convergence and tried different picture formats to no avail.

please help me figure this out so i can get as much enjoyment as possible out of this otherwise beautiful set. thanks in advance!

great link, very informative. something i can probley tackle myself. but are you sure doing this will correct the entire picture from being slanted? the colors seem properly converged. but, when i do do the manual multi-point converge the alignment crosses themselves (the base yellow ones) are also slanted. just want to make sure before i open the set up. thanks!

here are some pictures of the tv image to try to clarify the problem:

this image is slightly blurred but if you look at the top letterbox portion just to the right of center, you can see the slight bowing. and at the bottom how the image is cut off (this is regardless of the picture format, 4:3, panorama, etc.)

heres another image of the multipoint convergence crosses. as you can see they all slant down and to the right:

hope this helps. dont think its the color convergence though because there is no blue/red "ghost image". thanks again!

    here's what i got:

    Wide Blank 7

    Hor. Shift 24

    Hor. Parallel 8

    EW. Width 29

    EW. Para 36

    EW. Trap 31

    Hor Bow 7

    VER. Slope 42

    Ver. AMPL 28

    S Corr 31

    Ver. shift 31

    Fast Blank 0

  • sean122774 Dec 20, 2007

i'll give that a try. but yeah, i think it's just a matter of adjusting these numbers to get the appropriate size. thanks again for all your help.

and for the sake of the community: this is the solution to the problem i was having. to clarify for future readers:

you can enter the service menu in most phillips tvs by using your remote. enter the numbers 062596 and hit status. from there you can navigate to the geometry settings. i reached mine by going to "GDE SAM" and then "geometry"

when i do do the manual multi-point converge the alignment crosses themselves (the base yellow ones) are also slanted

there is only red, green and blue
the only think else it could be is manual convergence that is the rings on the tubes themselves when moved move the convergence
and i would not recommend doing that unless you know what your doing.

does it look like the picture in the link? the fix is about 40 bucks if you do it yourself it's a pretty common problem. there are some resisters that should be checked.

your right it doesnt look like the typical convergance problem
Can you give me the default settings for service mode:

    GDE SAM >

    Geometry >

    Defaults for:

    Wide Blank

    Hor. Shift

    Hor. Parallel

    EW. Width

    EW. Para

    EW. Trap

    Hor Bow

    VER. Slope

    Ver. AMPL

    S Corr

    Ver. shift

they look pretty good these are the only ones that are slightly different.

VER. Slope - 38 - i changed this to 24 to get more picture in visible range

    Ver. AMPL - 33
    Ver. shift - 30

now that you have the numbers written down try changing ver. slope
to a lower number see what happens, then reset it back to what it is and do the next.

I have a 60 inch Philips tv and the picture is kind of blury and a little red. What is tha caused from?

THREE possible reasons for this:
I will list each and describe for you:

1.) If redish picture go to a black and white channel; is the screen somewhat red or black and White? This is adjustable from inside the set.

2.) If colors are skewed or look like they have a red outline it may be a convergence problem. See attached photo.

3.) Some of these sets develop a problem with the coolant which is used to keep the face of each of the three tubes cool; it is called Glycol. You would have to remove back cover and with set on look into each of the three lens (red, green, blue) to see if you have a clear red, green and blue picture.

Which best describes your problem?

First you need to determine if it is optical skew or mechanical skew.
If the machine is used as a printer then do the computer prints come out skewed? If it is not connected to a PC then print out the counter list using UserTools/Counter. If that prints straight then you are dealing with optical skew. Ricoh's in general are bad about the left front corner of the machine drooping from someone pushing down on that corner. If you have optical skew try lifting up the left front corner of the copier and try making a copy. That might fix your problem.
If the UserTools/Couter print out is skewed then your back to a mechanical skew and there are numerous causes for that.
The optical skew is more likely so let's start there.

Tv picture crooked towards bottom right.

I have a philips magnavox and had two problems that I recently fixed using kits from I can't say enough about their kits and help. Without them I would have never been able to fix my TV set myself.

The first problem I had was the TV was looking 3D. After doing some homework I found out that this is a convergence problem. I bought a kit, followed the instructions, and to my amazement fixed it myself.

After building my confidence with the 1st repair I decided to get their CRT fluid kit. This kit fixes the dull video, red video, or bright/halo looking video. If you have a magmavox set that is more than 5 years old your tv has this problem already. It happens on every set. As before I bought the kit, followed the instructions, and now my video looks factory new. Once again I wanted to say thanks to the team at Tv Repair Kits for putting together kits that the average joe can use.

Turn the TV on and it just make a chirping sound no picture

Without examing the set. IN general as a techs when they hear chirping noise is an indication of what is know as a Bad Flyback transformer; You may possibly have a shorted Horizontal Output Transistor or both that will need replaceing.
