Start your computer in BIOS and check if the HDD is detected over there. If no then you need to run a SMART test on the HDD or you need to reinstall the O/s. If the HDD is not detected then you need to reseat the HDD SATA/IDE cable after opening the cabinet. Check again in BIOS if the issue is not resolved then the HDD has gone bad.

Sorry man, I actually went back to the place of purcased and it ended up working for them. I ended up exchanging it for a different model that they recomended. It ended up working just fine. But if you wanted to know. I have a self built tower pc, running windows XP. The external hardrive was a simple tech mini hardrvie, expresso. When I checked on the usb to check if it showed up my, the computer recognized it and said it was working fine. But when I went into my computer file to go into the hardrive, the external hardrive did not show at all. I inserted both usb to provide full power. I also tried reseting the computer with the external hardrive still connected and nothing happened.
The new hardrive came with instructions and adviced to right click my computer file and select manage. Then go to disk management. The external hardrive showed up and I had to partition the hardrive then format it. It worked great. I'm just upset, because I probably had to do it to the hardrive I was having issues with, but I had no idea. But in the upside. The new external hardrive came costed more but it was in sale for the same price and it came with a fire wire. So I came up. But thanx again.
