Re: Computer will not shut down

Dear Sir/Mam
Hi teedoff1980,
This is paddy_solver and lemme ask a favour from you if i would start to resolve your problem plz donot consult nybody for this and i assure you i will be upto your expectation.Like you said your computer wont shut down however you havent mentioned which operating system you have however try these steps ...
steps to preform:_ start and then click on Run.
2 It would open a box where you have to type a command "msconfig" and then click on ok.It would open a box "system configuration utility" in this box the last tab would say "startup" at the very top under startup you would see lots of iteams which would be checked and down to the very bottom you will see "disable all" click it and then before "startup" to the very top there would be one more tab "services" click services and then down at the very bottom you would see a box "hide all microsoft services" check it and then click on disable all click on "apply" and then "ok" or click on "close" it would ask you to restart it .restart the computer and if it still stuck at the shutting down window then manually shut it down and restart the computer and then agian try and shut it down i am sure it would do the trick for you.
once the computer would restart it would give you a message you have used "system configuration utility" down at the bottom you would see a box "dont show this message agin" chcek it and click "ok" or "close".

If still the issue persists then you can call me at a toll free number 1888-977-3765 and ask for my name puran and i would be glad to assist you for the same.

Thanks and Regads

Hp dx2200 computer won't power off

If your HP computer refuses to power down, this means that there are still programs open that Windows can't close. Normally when you select the "Shut Down" button from your "Start" menu, Windows closes all open programs, then closes itself, and your basic input/output system (BIOS) turns off all of your hardware. If Windows can't close all open programs, your computer won't be able to power off. This means that you must close these programs yourself.

Right-click on the window of an open program on your Windows taskbar (Bottom of Screen) Click "Close Window." Windows manually closes the program. If a window appears on-screen indicating that Windows cannot get the program to close, click the "Force Close" button in this window to have Windows force the program to shut down. Repeat "Step 1" for any additional programs that are open on your computer. Click "Start." Click "Shut Down." Hope this helps.

Automatically Close Programs at Shutdown

When you shut down Windows, if you have any programs running you'll get a message box warning you that a program is still running. You then have to close the program and tell XP again to shut down. It's a fairly pointless warning—better yet would be if XP automatically killed the programs without issuing the warning. That way, you wouldn't get error messages and wouldn't have to close each individual application before shutting down your computer.
To have XP automatically close programs at shutdown, run the Registry Editor and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. Edit the AutoEndTasks key so that is has a value of 1. If the key doesn't exist, create it as a DWORD value and give it the value of 1. To disable it, either delete the key, or set the value to 0.

Need new driver file for pavilion a706n att conntect tech could not repair it

On this page I advise clicking on the + sign to the left of -
Driver - Original (9)

Now scroll down, and click on,

Fall 2004 Original Network Adapter Driver Collection

On this page go down to the sub-heading - Details and specifications, and click on -

When the small window comes up, click on Save File.

Another small window will come up. DO NOT close the window yet.
Look in the heading at the top of the small window.
This tells you where the file will go.
Write it down.

The heading may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads IN the heading.

If it states Desktop the file will go to your desktop screen.
Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.

If it states My Documents click on Start, then My Documents.

If it states Downloads, click on Start, My Documents, and Double-click on Downloads.

When you see the file name double-click on it.
Follow the Installation Wizard instructions.
(Essentially just click on Next, Next, and Finish, at the bottom of the windows)

After the file has installed shut your computer down normally.
(Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off)

Wait 20 seconds, turn your computer back on.

I have a compaq computer that works great for 1 hour the shuts do

Is it shuting down? Or just instantly going off.

If it is shutting down, adjust the power settings.
  • Control Panel
  • Power Options
  • Make sure the scheme you want is selected. For a desktop it should be Home/Office or Always on.
  • Make sure that System Standby and Hibernate (if available) are set to the length you want.

CD drive not working

Based on your indication the CD drive is clean, and you know the cables are attached to it, inside the computer. (Flat ribbon IDE interface cable, and 4-pin Molex connector power cable)

1.Go to Device Manager

Left-click on Start. Right-click on My Computer. Go down, and Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Hardware tab. Go down, and Left-click on Device Manager.

Left-click on the + sign to the left of, DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right-click right on the name of the CD drive.

(Example: Lite On DVDRW LH-20A1P.
eMachines Support indicates the T5212 has a DVD burner drive, and a CD drive. Right-click on the CD drive name))

In the drop down list, Left-click on Properties.
Left-click on the Driver tab
Go below, and Left-click on the Update Driver 'button'. Now go below, and Left-click on OK.

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Shut your computer down normally. (Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down)

Do Not Restart. We need a 'Hard Shut Down'.
Wait 1 minute, turn your computer on.

Still doesn't work?
Let's play hard ball.

2.Go back to Device Manager. Left-click on the + sign to the left of DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on the name of the CD drive. Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Driver tab.
This time go down, and Left-click on the Uninstall 'button'. Go below, and Left-click on OK

There will be a Microsoft 'squawk box' that comes up. "Warning you are about to uninstall this device"
Left-click on OK. (It IS okay!)

Close all windows. Shut down your computer normally. (Again, we need a 'Hard Shut Down'. To Restart a computer is known as a 'Soft Shut Down')

Wait 1 minute. Turn your computer on.
After Windows loads all the way, and all of your Start Menu programs have loaded, you should see a pop-up out of your system tray. (Bottom of Windows desktop screen)

"Found New Hardware", and perhaps another one, "Found XYZ CD drive". (XYZ = the CD drive name)

No still?

The driver for your CD drive, is located within the Windows XP operating system on your computer.
If your CD drive does not work now, I suggest it has failed.

Drives such as Optical drives, and Harddrives, are mechanical devices. Their 'Lifespan', is rated in so many hours of usage. Your CD drive may be at the end of it's 'Lifespan'.
