Avanti EWC16B (wine cooler) got fried by power surge

Avanti EWC16B (wine cooler) does not work anymore after a power surge in our building. Which part of this cooler could have been affected and is it easy to repair? http://www.avantiproducts.com/parts/ewc16b_exploded_view_and_parts_list.pdf

The fuse was indeed blown, so I replaced it by soldering in a 2.5A 250V one in a fuse holder. However, the cooler still does not work. I tested the diode closest to the fuse, but that seems to be fine. There are a bunch of other diodes. Any idea?

A lot of time during storms the control boards in appliances get messed up. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in after about 20 seconds. A lot of times that will reset the controls.....if they did not get fried.

There is a 2.5A 240V fuse soldered onto the main pcb board at the rear of the unit. Likely it is blown. It is covered with black heatshrink. You will need to solder a new one in. Also the diode 1N4007 that is near the fuse sometimes blows. This is a common diode that will cost about $1. You can probably use something close like anything else in the 1N400X series. This diode is near the edge of the pcboard on the same side as the fuse..

I have a Avanti wc492d wine cooler that is not working. The unit shows power(lights are working) but it will not cool at all. I can here a click sound when I change the temp set, but the cooler will not...

The issue could be the cold control, timer, wiring, or the compressor.

The temp control has to be closed for voltage to get to the timer. The timer then calls for the fans and compressor to run. The timer could have stalled after a defrost cycle or the cold control could not be sending voltage to the timer.

Wine cooler has no light or power working it simply shut down

you want to check power coming into unit... do you have power at the switch... there was alot of issues a ton etime with there power control switches and thermostats... check incoming power to unit and see if the switch has failed... also these units have small controls on them that will fail from time to time. you are going to have to see where power has failed at.

Power surge caused wine cooler to quit cooling

Power surges, spike and brown-outs are a nemesis to small refrigeration units. The capacitor for the compressor likey was affected and possibly the start components in general, especially if the unit was operating when the surge occured.

the wine cooler has to be at least 3" away from the wall, do not block the air flow to the condenser. or check power plug to outlet is it secure.
