Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

2 Answers

Broken I'll put my disc in and all that shows up on the screen is open tray- close tray. It will not read the disc. I've cleaned the disc and the console. Also have tried other games. Same thing keeps coming up. OPEN TRAY - CLOSE TRAY. I just purchased the xbox 360 2 months ago. Please help. I really don't want to have to send it in. Game Junky. E-mail buddyoceanblue@yahoo.com

First of all the solution #1 is oh so wrong it is not the switch and the person who said that should not be giving advice to others about repair as it is obvious they do not know what they are doing. that being said. you probably have one of the two problems i am about to explain. #1 your laser unit inside the DVD drive has either gone out of alignment or is bad and needs to be replaced. #2 your DVD drive Motor has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I have had several of these units like this and have had to replace the entire drive unit as i could not find a DVD drive motor unit. Now with that said if you chose to replace the drive you should be aware that the dvd drivs are locked to the current system they are installed in. You will need to flash the new drive with your old drives firmware. it is a bunch of codes that tells the drive how to function and has keycodes inside the code to tell the console it is the proper drive and to work when you turn the power on. I am currently working out how execatly to accomplish this task with 2 drives i have. When i figure it out i will post again.

Good luck i hope this helped.

follow this steps, and use the common sense.God bless you
If the player skips, make sure that the DVD disc is not dirty or scratched..Use the cleaner disk buy it from R. Shack.
If the tray won't open or close properly, check the belt for dirt or wear. Then check the tray for misalignment. If needed, remove, clean, lubricate, and reinstall the tray following the instructions in the owner's manual.

Tip

XBOX 360 WILL NOT READ DISC SAYS OPEN TRAY

eject the game from the cd console if in the drive make sure your xbox is on warm it up take the disc if it is dirty run under warm water all over the silver side of the disc till dirt and debris gets completely removed after still holding the disc turn off the water and use scott SCOTT brand toilet paper the straight kind and use about four sheets to dry the disc or use a blow dryer, not preffered prefreably scot toilet paper after the disc is dry and warm very dry take your clean index finger and remove the rest of the debris off the disc and when the xbox says open tray let it say close tray close it see if it says read the disc if it says read the disc then it is not your laser or the laser needs to be blowed off with an air gun or compressed air. Get it to say close tray and itll close it self, wait ten seconds turn off the xbox turn it back on and go to my xbox mash play wait for it to read the disc. THE DISC WILL NOT WORK IF IT IS DIRTY I reccomend running it under warm water (let dry on both sides while still holding it properly) use a non scratch cloth to clean the disc preferablly scott toilet paper the smooth kind, after it is dry put the disc in the console if youve tried the disc try a brand new disc it might definately work after it says read if it says play the game then its the disc. If nothing happens like it dont say reading disc then your laser is cracked corrupted, or it has debris on it or is wett. Dont let your laser head get wet because i told you to run it under water make sure the disc is dry and completly free of scratches and smudges. WASH THE DISC WITHOUT SCRATCHING IT. Dont put a wet disc in your x box. Mash the hard drive button down and release mash reset to recycle the xbox green lights. Remove all the cords fromt the xbox wait two weeks or shorter, I waited a month or more before i played my game and it worked after I cleaned it twice one time and a month later i cleaned it without soap and used luke warm water.Remember Open tray, press buttom close tray closing automatically should say read reading reading disc then play if does not read the disc then its your laser. If its your laser and you are sure its your laser do not remove the hardrive or any screws they can tell youve botherd it because that will void your warranty. go to www.xbox.com/support its a pdf file print shipping label follow the steps to repair.

My xbox 360 will not read the disks i put into it. it is like it isn't reading that there is a disk in in the tray. it says open tray then close tray over and over again. it wont spin the disk to read it.

Inspect and clean your disc Take a close look at the bottom side of your game, movie, or music disc (the side without a label or image). Are there scratches? Excessive scratches or smudges can prevent your console from reading the disc. Clean your disc Hold the disc by the edges without touching the top or bottom surfaces. Using a soft, clean, slightly damp cloth, lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward.

· Note Use ONLY water to clean the disc.

· Once the disc is clean, load the disc into your console and see if the disc plays.

My 360 dose not read discs but it dose spin them

Disc Error :- I have the same error. You can do 4 things.

A) You have to keep turning it on and off. Here's how... Turn it on, then click open tray then close tray ( keep opening and closing tray about 10 times) then turn the console off. Then keep repeating process for about 15-20 minutes and eventually the game disc will show up. ( I have to do this every time)

B) Make sure that this is covered by Microsof't's RROD warranty. Then some how get teh red rings on this console and send it to Microsoft. (Note: I am not held responsible for your actions.)

C) This is a lens problem. So go out to a store and buy a DVD lens cleanser. It's a disc that cleans the lenses of the DVD or the XBOX.

D) Open it up and replace the lens (like the above guy said) (much harder and more costly).

Pls rate my solution if it did help thanks.

Xbox does not read discs.

Getting to the dashboard screen is a good thing but still cannot rule out a bad circuit board or power supply. All the symptoms point to a bad DVD drive but the opening/closing by itself do indicate a problem with the microprocessor. Can you turn the power on and off with the small button?? If not, would definitely suspect bad board.
