Sounds like the unit is in valet mode or the hood switch is broken. check for the hood switch or look for a toggle switch that might be under your dash. if switch is located turn switch on and try remote start.

Unlock button does not work manual lock ok when you unlock with key alarm goes off

I presume if you tried to start the vehicle it would start and drive as normal, just with the alarm going off... If this is the case then depending on make/model etc. the problem is electrical in the alarm system. The alarm is activated by the button, but not with the key in the door. Get the button to work and the alarm will de-activate. This maybe simple, i.e.. 1st checks...battery in fob , or bad connection in fob. Car Battery voltage.. is it 12v.

2nd check faulty receiver/ bad connection somewhere in system. To check correctly you will need to know locations of alarm/remote locking components. Basically find and test fuses (probably won't be faulty with your symptoms but check nevertheless,) then find receiver, and visual check connections in circuit, (bad earths are the most common failing in remote locking). If not working by this point you may want to stop and seek help.

Otherwise you will need a wiring diagram and have some basic voltage drop testing skills to identify problem. Thus you will need to test switching circuit in the remote locking/alarm circuit. Positive side...is the voltage is .5v or more then wiring fault on this side ...negative side test the same way.. Even with wiring problems, receiver may also be faulty as it would probably still work with volt drop of up to about 2v total, . If total volt drop in under 1v then somewhere in the receiver (the switch) there is a problem. If you are on here asking, you probably won't be able to find problem in receiver and that is where you would need an expert.

The red/white wire needs to see two ground (-) pulses to start the car. The door lock wires in your vehicle are positive(+). So, you will have to use a relay to make this work. The diagram for the relay will be like so: red/white from autocommand to 30, chassis ground will go to 85 and 87, and tap into the blue wire and connect it to 86 of the relay. This way when you press the lock button on your factory remote, the positive pulse at 85 will activate the relay and make the connection with 87 and 30, sending a ground pulse to the red/white wire. The blue lock wire can be located at the body control module(BCM) located to the right of the gas pedal. There are a couple of 7mm bolts holding a plastic piece that needs to be removed to access the BCM. The door lock wire is in the brown plug facing the drivers side.

I need to disable my alarm on a 1997 bmw 528i.

Now im not sure since the manual says your model has the same alarm system as the 328i and on the 328i you can remove the module to disable by doing the following. you can unplug the control module. It is located under the glove box. Climb under the dash on the passenger side and remove a few screws on the trim panel under the glove box. Theres a black control module with a green connector. There should be a lock tab on the connector. press the lock tab and pull out the connector. The alarm should now be disabled. But if it has the special transponder key this may not work.
But if the only reason you want to disable it is because of the motion sensor setting of the alarm for no reason there is a solution for this. To disable the motion sensor, hit the lock button to arm, then hit lock button again within four seconds to disable motion sensor. Red light on rearview mirror should flash four times, then pause, then start flashing on regular intervals. this is most likely the reason if your having the issue where the alarm goes off every 20 minutes.
If you want to completely remove it below is a wiring diagram taken from the manual for you alarm system.
this is from the manual its the alarm wiring diagram.
