Everytime I take a picture using flash the camera shuts off
I need to use flash A LOT. I mean, flash is amazing, right? I've tried using new batteries, making sure the port where you insert the batteries is clean and nothing works. I'll turn on the camera then take a picture using flash. The flash will only go off once then the camera will shut off. The lens will stay open and everything, just the screen and everything else will shut off. To turn it back on, I need to take out the batteries, put them back in then when the camera turns back on I always get the message "The date and time has been reset." with the option to set it again or cancel to not worry about date & time. I NEED TO USE FLASH BUT THE CAMERA ALWAYS TURNS OFF! NO MATTER WHAT BATTERIES I USE!

Flash screen? What? You mean even in pictures with flash disabled (and the flash does drag down the electronics in the thing; make a replacement using an LED lamp and circuit if you have a chance) it takes no picture and leaves you with a black LCD? Are you indeed using a good battery (they go bad gradually (depending on the case on how many times you fire the flash!)) New battery first!
When taking pictures, you must really be allowing time for the camera's flash to be charged before you could take another picture so that camera will have enough time to rest and it could function normally.
But if the camera was dropped, then it's really causing those kinds of issues like flash will not work properly.
You could still try these steps below:
First, do the POWER RESET: - Turn off camera - Remove batteries for a minute - Reload batteries - Turn on camera
Second, do the MASTER RESET
- Be in AUTO mode - Press on MENU button - Press on the right button until you see SETUP 2 - Scroll down until you see RESET - Press the right button to pick up on YES or NO - Press on OK/MENU button for changes to be saved
- Turn off camera for a few seconds so that settings will be refreshed
Turn it on and take a picture.
When you want to have just the AUTO FLASH.
- Rotate the mode dial to PROGRAM
- Press the LEFT/FLASH button until you've seen the
LIGHTNING icon with the Letter A on the leftmost part of the screen
- Try to take a picture by pressing and holding the shutter button
halfway first for 3-5 seconds and then press it all the way down
Do you mean, the AF Illuminator (the bright orange/red light that appears before the picture is taken)?? If so, all have to do is click on menu, scroll all the way to the right (into the setup menu) and go to the camera icon. From there, go down to the AF Illuminator and switch it from "Auto" to "Off".
