The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

How does a touchpad work on laptops

a touchpad works off the static electrical charge that resides all living tissue as far as I know. if you were to statically charge that piece of metal you are referring to, it would work. as far as why the mouse pointer doesn't jump when you touch a specific spot on the touch pad is because people, in general, don't want it to so the software that controls it has been designed not to.

Touch pad scroll is not working

The reason why your cursor is jumping all over the screen is because you are touching it by mistake with your thumb or hand somehow. You can turn the sensitivity down ans set two finger scroll (and other options) for your touchpad - go to control panel > mouse > device settings >

If you do not have device settings, you need to download the official drivers and software to enable all features. The driver you have is probably the default win 8 generic one. Let me know the model number of your laptop and I can help.

The cursor jumps backward in text. It jumps several lines up and down.It also does not respond to a simple left tap when I need it to open or close wish to delete something. I am not accidently doing...

Replace the mouse with a known good working one.
If you are not using a mouse (bad news) the touch pad may be failing.
In that case, an easy test and fix is to disable it in "Control Panel" then install a mouse in the USB Port.

If the problem is corrected then it is your touch pad.

Here is a link to the manual from Dell. FREE!

See Page 42 on disabling the Touch Pad.

Go to EBay and insert "6000 Dell Inspiron touch pad". It's cheap but difficult to replace.

Mouse keeps jumping on dell latitude 410

Hi David,

If you are using touch-pad of your laptop try changing the sensitivity to lower in your touch-pad settings. If not; uninstall the touch-pad driver and re-install (or update) it, this will help if the driver is corrupted. OR try using a USB mouse and see this error occurs or not. If this jumping problem is not repeating then it will be the hardware problem of your laptop's touch-pad which a service technician can fix it. Thank you.

Please rate me if this solution was helpful for you!

On my CF-51 the touchpad is erratic and occasionally the screen cursor will jump. The OS is Windows XP. Everything else works perfectly.

I had similar issues with cursor jumping even while using a mouse.

Very simple & quick fix is to simply "disable" touch pad through "start up" mode use a mouse.
You have to disable in start up menu or pad will re-enable itself next time you boot.

I never liked a mouse before being forced to use it .... now it's not so bad.

My cursor jumps around. Why?

(1) If you are using a laptop for typing text and your cursor is jumping around while you are working with a touch pad then it is a common defect in many Laptops. The solution to this is that you disable the touch pad by pressing down Fn key and selecting the appropriate Function key. You have to use a mouse.
(2) If you are using a desktop and the cursor is jumping then it is a very high probability that you have a virus in your computer. Take a updated virus cleaner/remover and scan/clean your system.

Mouse pad jumping can be common symptom of Synaptics pads (is it Synaptics?) - look for driver and install it.
Also, try switching it on from off and do NOT touch the pad for several minutes.
Common symptom when people just use very light pressure on mouse pad within first few minutes. Latest driver should fix.
also try pressing whole palm down on touchpad for several seconds - this can reset the software on some touchpads.
As for webcam, disconnect it, uninstall drivers, re-install drivers and then re-connect it. If it is built in then go to Device Manager - Hardware and find the device - click on uninstall driver - then re-install the driver.
