Re 02 Taurus on drivers side a coolant hose appears to hook to a plastic coupling that has a nipple out the top hooked to a small hose hooked to a metal line. The nipple is broken loose. How do you get this all apart. The coupling appears to be put together with plastic collars from the factory.

How do you recharge the airconditioning unit on a 2002 Dodge Caravan?

If you follow the ac lines from the condenser(in front of the radiator) you will find two small threaded nipples, one on each hose. They should each be labeled, but you need to hook up a recharge kit to the low pressure side. Don't mess with the high pressure side. (usually they are on the passenger side of the engine bay, somewhere close to the firewall, or around the air filter.) just be aware, the freon you can buy at an auto parts store, will never compare to what a garage gets. There is a big difference in the chemical they use over what you can buy.

My car overheats quick is a cadilac 97 ceville

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line(small hose). The purge line is designed to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank (not the cap) ,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating. If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage. The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side to near the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.

Where is thermostat on the 2000 Deville??

he thermostat housing is located on top of the motor, underneath the air intake assembly. The easiest way to remove it, is just take off the air cleaner assembly. Unscrew the plastic nut on top of the air cleaner (above the throttle body), and then remove the 4 screws that hold the top onto the air filter box. It will start to lift off now, but there's several hoses and vacuum lines attached. The rubber hoses should have plastic clips holding them in place, these can be CAREFULLY separated with a screw driver, and then just pull the hoses off. The vacuum lines are underneath it, CAREFULLY pull these off, or pry them off with a screw driver. Make sure you remember which ones go where! With this off, the housing is easy to see, the upper radiator hose on the driver side of the car goes right into it. Remove this hose, be prepared to spill some coolant. Have towels ready to catch/mop up what you spill, and have some extra coolant handy to replace what is lost when you're done. There should be a couple bolts holding the housing on, remove these. There might be a sensor in this as well, I don't remember, unplug it if it's in the way. Pull the housing cover off, and the thermostat should be right underneath. It just lifts out, make sure you put the new one in the same way the old one came out, in other words, don't put it in upside down, it won't work. Also, make sure you have a new gasket for the housing, you should never reuse the old one. If needed, clean of any old gasket material or sealant, try not to get any into the coolant. It's not required, but it never hurts to use some RTV sealant when you put the housing back on. Reinstall everything, add coolant if needed, and don't forget to recheck the coolant level after the engine heats up, it'll probably drop once the thermostat opens up.

How do I drain and fill the radiator on a 2001 Ford Taurus?

Be sure to purchase the correct coolant/ antifreeze before starting.
Make sure the engine is cold ( has not run in atleast 2 hours ) raise the left front side of car, remove the plastic shield the runs across the whole bottom.Once removed you will see the drain nut on the drivers side. Using a 19mm wrench ( put a drain pan under car,and you should have safety glass on ) loosen the nut a couple of turns, then go to the top and remove the cap on the coolant resevoir. Finish the lower nut, when the coolant stops the fast flow, tighten the nut hand tight, then a small amount more of tightness with the wrench, ( do not over tighten or it will break and cost you an extra estimated $ 400.00 to replace the rad ).Install the plastic shield, lower car, pour a 50/50 mixture ( mix ahead of time ) of coolant and water into the tank until the level reaches and stays at the full mark, reinstall the cap and start the engine. Stay in the car and watch the temp. gauge, if it rises to the red/ hot area shut the car off and let it cool completely ( atleast 1-2 hours ) then remove the cap and top up the tank. should be good after that, but run again to make sure.
