Yes, it is one of the best.

But the solution more and more people are using is a CB radio, it can offer you real time informations regarding everything happens on the road. I also use it.

Best regards,

The tip is missing on my power cord Whistler XCS also has rechargeable batteries but seems like it won't work without power cord. So is the cord easy to replace? Does that mean the detector is...

You can buy cigarette lighter power supplies at radio shack, they sell a wide variety of voltages and tips to fit almost any device (radar detector) you may have.
The 4 things you need to know (which you may be able to find off of the broken power cord
  • voltage, your car is ~12VDC (volts DC) but your device may need something lower
  • amperage, your device has a certain power draw, as long as your new plug has the same or higher you are good (ie: your device may say 500mA, you can use a 1A power plug (1A = 1000mA)
  • tip size, these vary from device to device, best thing is to bring it into Radio Shack with you and size it up there
  • polarity, what is positive and what is negative (on the tip), this may also be found on the old power plug or manual, or sometimes on the device itself)
I hope this helps,

Over heating & burning power cord

The fuse in the power cord should be no higher than 2 amps to protect your electrical system, so double check that the power cord that you purchased has a fuse in it and its no more than 2 amps. The 1743 model came with a 1 year warranty. If the unit is under 1 year old and you have a dated store receipt, then see can click on "contact Us. then click on"shipping information".
