Re: error code 0102
Error code 0102 is still unknown The xclamp mod is a possible fix for this error there is also a possability that the error is caused by a bad soldering join on your cpu, gpu or your ram. I would check all those parts with a magnifiying glass to make sure that there are no cracks in the solder. Another way to possibly fix this is to turn off your HD format on the AV cables this might work.

RRoD is like a BSoD on Windows. It's a fatal error and a primary code. It doesn't tell you anything at this stage and the code is so generic, if can be anything from the PSU being faulty/not being connected to a specific component fault. You therefore need the Secondary Error Code (google it). If you get anything like 0102, 0020, 0110 then it's extremely possible the problem is with the GPU. Ignore any videos regarding heatguns, towel tricks or clamping / bolting. you'll just make it worse. The solder balls which attach the GPU to the main board need replacing. This is done by special equipment and is a proper fix, unlike the methods mentioned above. In extreme cases, the actual GPU needs to be replaced.
though it's most likely GPU related literally means the
console does not know what is wrong. possibly a short or cold solder

these errors is that the Ram, CPU, or GPU are not soldered properly to
the mother board due either to poor manufacturing or excessive heat up
and cool down cycles that stress, weaken and eventually break the
There are two theories to fixing this one deals with
the "X" clamps that hold down the chips. The other involves
re-Heating the chips. DO NOT attempt either of these if
your console is still under warranty. If your console is still under

have it replaced. I have also heard of limited success by simply
switching the AV cable from "HDTV" mode to "TV" mode.
The Xbox 360 has serious cooling problems; compressed air usually does wonders for the Xbox.
You'll "brick" your Xbox tampering with the fan and heat sink; soft mods are always a bad idea if you don't have any recourse for fixing the system.
Hard Mods/Mod Chips are the best way to go because you have dual boot capabilities; you can boot to the original Xbox OS or the Mod Chip firmware.
Currently, Microsoft is
being sued for the number of Xbox 360 consoles experiencing the "Red
Rings of Death."
Microsoft is making amends by fixing the Xbox 360 at
Taking the Xbox apart yourself may void
your warranty; you might start by uses an Ohm Meter to check the heat sink and fan connections.
Also make sure there is not a gap between the heat sink and the processor; this space should be filled with the thermal compound.
Furthermore, the fan might be damaged and not reporting the fan speed through the variable resistance wire; only way to determine this is by powering the fan with +5v / -5v and checking the variable resistance wire with an Ohm meter.
0102 Error in the "Digital Backbone" (CPU/GPU/RAM) is usually caused by a cold solder joint between the GPU and the mainboard.

The red ring of death is a generic error code due to the design of the xbox. Microsoft has offered an extended three year warranty to anyone who is afflicted by the red ring of death. Try calling them at 1-800-4MY-XBOX with your consoles serial number, and they will start the replacement process to repair your console.
