Question about Water Heaters

1 Answer

I have a Jandy Ji2000 controller (1991). When I turn on the spa my main pump loses prime in about two minutes. Also, in spa mode my heater does not turn on. I can get the heater to turn on manually.

Hi,

You can get the troubleshooting manual from the below link, which can be used to service yourself,

http://www.jandy-downloads.com/pdfs/Ji2000tr.pdf

Here are some tips:

Filter Pump Does Not Turn Off
Whether or not a heater is connected to the system, as long as jumper JP 7 is covering pins 2
and 3, the system will go into a cool down cycle for approximately 7 minutes whenever the filter pump is
turned on and then off. The cool down cycle will start when the Spa button is turned off or the filter
pump time clock reaches the shut off time.

Pool Will Not Heat
In order to heat the pool, the heater button on the Ji 2000 must be enabled, the Heater Selector
Switch on the Ji 2000 Power Center must be in the Spa/Pool position and the filter pump must be
turned on by the filter pump time clock. The filter pump time clock must activate the filter pump
because the heater cool down relay is tied to the time clock circuit, and the relay will only close when
the time clock circuit is engaged.

Heater

Water heater can be added to any incoming water line, either on hot or cold.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-install-under-counter-water-heater.html
Under-counter water heater located near tub will supply hot water just like ordinary household water heater. But it will not reheat water that circulates inside the spa tub.
Otherwise, a spa heater is made with electric element that can work with 120V or 240V. Water from tub circulates through tank that holds element. Element must be fully immersed in water.
To retrofit spa tub with this heater would require cutting water line near pump, running both ends of water line into tank with element.
Then of course you would need to retrofit adjustable thermostat to control when element is on. And integrate element operation into air control switch at tub that can override thermostat so element is not heating when tub is not in use.
Unless there is a pre-packaged kit to retrofit heater, I think adding heater would be difficult.

Main remote control is not working can you bypass the remote temporarily

No. However you may be able reset the thermostat to its factory setting.
Turn the thermostat off.
Shut of the gas and water supply to the unit.
Unplug or disconnect the unit from its electrical power source. Disconnect the thermostat from the heater.
Wait approximately 5 to minutes, and then reattach the thermostat wires to the heater.
Turn the water supply on and open the tub faucet to its hottest setting for about a minute.
Turn the faucet off and make sure no water water is flowing anywhere in the house.
Turn the gas supply back on.
Reconnect the thermostat wires to the heater.
Connect or turn the power supply back on.
Wait at least 2 minutes before turning the thermostat power button back on.
After the thermostat power button has be pressed, wait an additional 2 minutes before running water.
Test the heater at this time. Turn the water on at the farthest faucet to its hottest setting. measure the temperature with a cooking thermometer.
If you need to make adjustments to the water temperature, either up down, shut all the faucets off first.
The thermostat should read 100 degrees Fahrenheit when it first starts.
If you are receiving an error massage, consult with the manufacturer.
If the thermostat is reading the correct water temperature but the unit is not operating, there are other issue need to deal with. Let us know if this works or you need further assistance.

Hello, how I remove the water from my whirlpool jacuzzi bath Balboa Z112 spa so I can clean it

hook up a garden hose to a faucet. Put the other end in your spa. Then turn on the faucetuntil water comes out the spa end of hose. Make sure the end in the spa is weighted down so it doesn't come out. Then remove the hose from the faucet and keeping it lower than the spa lay the hose where it can drain with causing problems. The water will flow on its own draining the spa. You may want to clean it while its draing so the dirty water will be diluted and drain at thhe same time. Make sure the water is not drained out around any electrical AND!!! NO DIVING!!!! If you lose the prime, just fill the hose again with the faucet. Good luck
