I think this is what you're looking for. (or here). Your ISP should also have a support document on their website that instructs you how to do so, or you can call their customer support to be walked through the process.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Default router password is not working.

Are you sure you reset it ? Try holding the reset switch with power off and unplugged for a few seconds, then try resetting with power on.

  • If you do not remember your password, you can click "I Forgot My Password" on the login screen and the 2Wire will provide you with a password hint.
  • If you still do not remember, you can click on "I Still Don't Remember My Password" and the 2Wire will prompt you for the system key.
  • The system key is located on the side of the 2Wire HomePortal on a sticker and is a 10-digit number surrounded by brackets (ex: [1234567890]). It is located between the two barcodes on the sticker (see image below).
  • Once you enter the system key, the 2Wire will allow you to reset the password to anything you like.

If after your hint is shown to you, you still can't remember your password, there is a "I still can't remember my password" link that you can click to take you to a page to obtain a temporary password. To obtain a temporary password, you must call the support telephone number on the screen and provide the special code number that is generated by your HomePortal. The support representative will use this special code number to generate a temporary password. Once you have entered the temporary password, you can then change your password and enter an appropriate hint.

I had set a new password awhile back on my 2700HGV-B2 Gateway. I had forgotten it, and my connection was set without a lock that typically needs you to input a password each time you connect (or so i...

Yes, you will be able to put in a new password and you definitely should.

If you don't have a manual, you can download it here.( I know it says "2701", but that's the only one 2wire offers.)

But you don't have to necessarily reset your router this way. Look at page 6 and 7 of the manual, it describes a way how to reset the password, without loosing all the routers settings.

In your special case, where someone else "owned" the router, I would still do a hard reset (via the pin hole). The simple reason is that you don't know which settings that person changed and I would prefer to start from a clean plate instead of searching for any mysterious settings.

You want to hold the reset button for about 15-20 seconds, so the router can truly reset and reboot properly.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

I need a reset of the system password

If you don't have the system password just reset it and reinstall it.
Make sure you have a computer connected directly to it.

Router

2wire routers are usually owned by your ISP, you may try calling them. Otherwise you can do a reset on the router putting it back to factory settings. On the back usually next to the power plug their is a small button that can be pressed in by a pen/pencil/paperclip.

I would strongly recommend calling your Internet Provider first to make sure so you don't wipe out any settings.
