Hello,
Most likely you have a bad power supply, very common in lcd monitors about 2-3 years old. The heat build up in the monitor causes parts called capacitors to blow and short out the power supply. If you can solder you should be able to fix it yourself. Go to our web site at:
www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm we have pictures of what the bad caps look like. Open your monitor case and replace any that look like the pictures. Be sure to use high temp caps (105c) not like you get from Radio Shack. We carry them and they can be ordered from many places on the internet. Install the new ones with the polarity stripe going the same direction as the old one. The values you need are printed on the bad caps that you take out. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service for $35 + return shipping. If you have any questions just contact me thru our web site and I will help all I can.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

SOURCE: No image -- monitor remains black

Without any instruments to check it with, substitution is the best test; in other words connect the monitor to another system for a minute or two and/or a different monitor to your system. (If you can do either, don't do 'hot' swaps, turn everything off and then back on again.)

If you've noticed it; you may have seen that the LED flashes if the monitor is left on and the system shut down. Removing the VGA cable from the back of your system (or the monitor if it is separable) should produce the same result; flashing LED. If this is the case, then your video source from the system (on-board of add-on) has failed. If the video chipset on the motherboard has failed, it can be disabled and replaced by an add-in board for a few dollars.

Look for shorted out transistors, bad caps, cold solder joints, bad fuse.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Gateway FPD 1730 (mfg June 2004) On start-up, monitor flashes bios screen for less than half a second, then flashes the Windows XP logo for less than half a second and then stays black, no image. No...

All support is finished for XP years ago. The system is 13 years old and well past it expected life. Average is 8 to 10 years on a shop bought unit like Gateway, 12 years on a custom build.

I am thinking you probably have a dry joint on the board behind the switch as holding the switch makes the monitor work.

My advice though is a new computer running Windows 10, technology moves on in hardware and software.

It sounds like a driver recovery issue, you may have to do a hard reboot. Hold the power button in for atleast 10 seconds or until your laptop shuts down completely, wait 30 seconds then turn it back on. If this fixes the problem you need to upgrade your video driver and/or your Operating System.

Hi there,

The TV screen or monitor remains black when you start an Xbox 360 console.

This behavior may occur with or without a game disc in the disc tray. The console appears to be on because the green power light illuminates and the fan continues to operate. However, the screen remains black.

MONITER LIGHT IS GREEN BUT ONLY SHOWS A NORMAL SCREEN FOR 1/2 SECOND THEN TURNS BLACK

HI. I had the same problem with mine. It would flash the screen on for a split second and then turn black, the whole time the power light remained green. Upon opening up the case, I pulled the combo power supply board/inverter board out for inspection. I noticed one of the capacitors had a bulge on top indicating it was bad. It was the the 680uf 25v capacitor. I desoldered it, and soldered in the new one. After hooking everything back up, bingo!! Monitor now works perfectly. I couldn't find an exact match to the capacitance locally, but I had a 1000uf 35v cap in my utility box. It worked fine as a replacement. You can usually go within 30 percent of tolerance and be alright. Just don't go under on capacitance or voltage. I hope this helps.

MRM 700 won't start; screen flashes white . . . help.

stonelinton, It's not your LCD, otherwise you would have heard the sound of buttons being pushed. If your units first screen is white and there is no logo screen or any legible images, then it's your NAND flash on your main board. The first image produced upon boot is the blue magellan screen. This is produced from the NAND flash and will show it no matter if a hard drive is present or not. After the Magellan screen it pulls images from the hard drive. So, it is the mainboard and the only way to fix it is to send it to Magellan repair and they will have to put in a new mainboard then reprogram your serial number, etc.
