Washer won't start after filling up

We've been hitting the washer to get it to start, but now it is not responding. Is it something I can fix myselt, or do I need a repairman? (I'm not very handy). If a repairman is needed, is it worth the cost or should I just get a new one?

Sounds like a bad lid switch - a safety switch which prevents the machine from agitating with the lid open. It might also just be a loose connection to the switch, since whacking the cabinet sometimes made it work. The part costs around $30 - $40 and is not too hard to replace, but it does require opening the cabinet of the machine. It's worth fixing unless the machine is too old. Call a repairman and ask for an estimate to replace the lid switch, then decide.

LOL I would want to be hit to start either sorry had to laugh at that. Any how there is a short somewhere and these are usually easy fixes, if you know someone that repairs them for a living at home or something they are usually cheaper, my neighbor does this out of his garage and fixes mine great for a very low price. You might have knocked something loose and can try unplugging it from the power source before you investigate. then take of the back cover and turn it over to see if anything looks loose like a screw fell out of a connection came loose might just need tightening after being hit so much. You never know until you try. I didn't know a thing about dryers until I had to fix it. It was easier than I thought and the parts I got used from a place that repairs and sells them. Hope that helps

The actual switch still actuates but the flimsy plastic support that holds the switch in place failed in my model. so the switch moves freely when the actuator touches it so the switch is never engaged. I plan on filling the gap with a stronger two part epoxy putty. Thanks for the Tip's.

Hotpoint slimeline 7801 dishwasher light comes on but wont start

When you say it won't start, do you mean a) the display is on and it won't respond, or b) it responds as it should, but after you hit the start button it doesn't go any further?

If it's b) make sure your water line is turned on. After you hit the start button it needs to make it's waterlevel setpoint to start the recirculation pump (thus shooting water everywhere). If it doesn't fill, then the washer doesn't know to go any further.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Motor Coupling If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and transmission.

Drive Belt If the washer won't spin or agitate, check the drive belt. If the belt is broken or if it isn't tight on the pulleys the washer won't spin or agitate properly.

Drive Motor If the washer won't spin or agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged, replace it.
Stator Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the stator assembly might be burned out. The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly If the washer won't spin or agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Control Board If the washer won't spin or agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

I get error FE- book says unplug and call a tech. Is this something I can fix myself?

FE error means that the water is filling past it's set point. You may have a broken water valve that won't shut off when it's in the filling mode. You can check by running the washer and watching the water fill. If the water level fills above the bottom of the glass, you have a water valve that's not shutting off. Replace the water valve.
