SOURCE: printer trouble

Power cycle the printer. If problem remains, try a partial reset. You can do the partial reset as follows:
1. Unplug and replug the unit.
2. when lights flash on power up, hold down the ON/RESUME and PAGE SIZE buttons together.
3. When only the ON/RESUME button light flashes, you can release the buttons.
4. When the lights stop flashing, the reset is all done!

If problem remains, you are fully justified to ask HP to replace the unit for you (well, if you're still in warranty!). Good luck :)

Try following this steps:

Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the product, but leave the product turned on.
Open the cover of the product and remove the print cartridges.
Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message to display.
Disconnect the power cord from the back of the product and wait for one minute.
Reconnect the power cord. If the product does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
Reconnect the USB cable, and try to print a print job from the computer.

Hope that helps........

SOURCE: Printer Alignment Failed in HP C5280

You must replace both with new GENUINE HP ink cartridges at the same time or alignment will fail.

This is how HP makes their money.

My laptop does not recognize the USB cable during a reinstallation of the HP Photosmart C5280 all-in-one printer. Yet, it recognizes the cable when I use it for another printer.

1) Do you have the drivers for the C5280 installed on the laptop?
Each printer (All-In-One) has to have it's own drivers.
The C5280 and the other printer.

Drivers are small pieces of software that allow the Operating System to 'communicate' with a device.
{Windows XP and Windows 7 being two examples of an O/S. The device in this case is an all-in-one printer ]

If you already have both drivers for both printers installed, post back in a Comment.

It would seem that if the USB cable works okay on a different all-in-one printer, that the problem is Not the USB cable, but the printer.

This is what draws me to conclude, that the drivers for the C5280 have not been installed.

Hp p/smart c5280 all lights flashing

Is this your problem:
The power light and about all of the left lights are blinking and there is
nothing on the display screen. Trying to turn off the machine does not work and
results in the same error. "Hard" reboots do not work.

Switch the cords if you have another HP Photosmart printer, even if the
latter one is still working.

I thought of this early but then decided to watse three hours of my life I
will never get back,

Do you have another HP printer with a similar looking power cord?

The cords should go into the back of the printer very easily. I have an HP
C5280 and a newer HP C309 and I just moved. Actually, I have three printers
including an HP 7510. The 7510 and the C309 worked just fine when I set them
up, so I figured they both had to be utilizing the proper cords. But I was
sismaken.

I undid the C309 cord and replugged it and noticed it was hard to put into
that machine, despite that it still printed, just as the one I was using on the
C5280 was difficult to plug in. So I made sure the transformers were basically
the same and switched the cords.

Your first tip that something is awry is if it takes any effort to get the
power cord into the machine in the first place.

Hope this works!
