John Deere X304 PTO Engagement Problem When Warm

Hi, check your belt tension, check all idler pulleys and drive pulleys for free rotation with the belt off and finally check that the belt is not bottoming out in any of the drive pulleys. If so, replace the belt. The blades should come up to speed imediately wether hot or cold and it sounds like your belt is slipping in one or more of the pulleys which drags the motor revs down until it grips. Regards Phil.

I have a john deere lawn tractor, 125. i broke the cable that engages the blades, i bought a new one, but cant see where the spring hooks up, above the deck?

Above the deck and from left side you go across deck the the idler arm that has the flat side of belt going around pulley. About halfway across arm there is a small hole that spring hooks to.

Noise, idler pully rubbing against middle blade

Unless there is some other means of placing tension on the deck belt, I would say that the idler pulley does. If the idler pulley is on a pivot arm, there is a spring that typically is attached to the pivot arm, near the pulley, that attaches to a post or some other part of the deck, that creates the tension on the belt. Check the belt for proper tension.
