Try first tripping the circuit breaker for five minutes, and ensure the fan switch is on.

If the hood has no power at all, then check power wires. Many units are also fused, if there is a fuse check it out.

If the unit has no suction, then test the fan motor. Motor is tested by a technician energizing it directly and reading volts on connector.

For safety reasons all test and repair must be done by an experienced repairer.

Hood latch won't latch when closing

Raise hood, have some one go pull hood latch and you look at latch and see if it releases,if it doesn't then cable may need replacing,I would'nt completely shut hood cause you may not get back open, also check hood latches bolts and latch for something bent or broken.

I have a blueflame probane heater ventless and when burning it has a slight smell. Is that normal for this ventless heater.

It depends on what it smells like. Initially, when the unit is installed it should be burned on HIGH for 45 minutes to an hour. Doings that, burns off all the oils and seasons the heater. Sort of like seasoning a cast iron skillet. After that, the newness odors should be gone. It's normal to get a whiff of gas when the burner lights or turns off. It should dissipate rather quickly.

Although Vent-free (ventless) heaters are very safe to use and are 99.5% efficient, their one drawback is that pick up strong household odors, like strong cleaning products, carpet shampoos, new paint or stain odors, strong cooking odors, etc and make them worse. That's why it's always best not to use the heater during or after painting, for at least 2 weeks. Although your nose may not detect the paint odor, the heater can and will make it worse. Also, always use your range's exhaust hood when cooking. Hopefully, it's the vented type and not one of do nothing recycling hoods.

Also, thoroughly cleaning the heater inside and out , at least once a season, will go along way in reducing odors and maintaining the longevity of your heater.

One other caution, do not burn scented candles and operate the heater at the same time. Scented candles soot anyway, but adding the warm moist, comfortable heat from the vent-free heater, will cause them to soot 50 times worse. Trust me, it's not the heater, it's the scented candles sooting.

Hope this helped explain some of the things that you asked about and more. If I can be of further help, please ask me through the Leave a Comment link.

I have a 3 year old ge smartwater gas water heater. in our ontario winters, the gravity vented unit spills exhaust into the basement because the pipe and chimney get too cold after the heater is off for...

Id try raising the chimney until you can get the smoke from a piece of paper to get sucked up under the draft hood. I believe theres a different problem then a cold pipe.raising the chim.might not be the answer.

The unit says it is ventless yet it talks about venting into the soffitt. We have no soffitt. Do we close off both opening and thenit will recirculate?

In order for a ventless exhaust fan to function it needs to have the exterior vent opening closed off and it should then recirculate the filtered air.

JVB37H1BB downdraft ventilation system stuck

Folks, I have experienced the same problem several times - in all of my cases the problem was solved by simply opening the back panel and taking out the motor assembly and re-aligning it. Check out this URL for a blow up of what's inside and parts list - http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5130126

The problem is that the arm tends to slip out and therefore won't raise or lower the hood anymore. Be careful when aligning it can be a little tricky - carefully observe the how the motor works outside of the housing via the switch and you will get the idea.

Wouldn't raise

The GE repair guy came and fixed our vent! He opened up the cover and found that the pivot arm was above where it was supposed to be. It had gotten dislodged or something. He replaced the pivot arm with a new one, Part #WB02X10303, which is supposed to be a new design that won't get off track so easily. Works great now.
