Hey Unit powers on however states "Connect Zune to your PC", then once connected & recognized by PC, unit fails to sync with software

Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged

Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.



Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

Zune won't sync and now some songs will not play all they way through


Go for software update from the zune website it will help you.

Also ensure that the settings are not changed .

Can't put music on zune!


1. Sync the Zune with its "home" computer. Each Zune has a specific "home" computer that it automatically syncs with. Use your Zune-specific USB cord to connect your device to this computer, and then sync your device as you normally would. This will solve most software hiccups and will generally get your Zune out of a "frozen" state.
2. Perform a soft reset. If syncing your device doesn't work, you can reset your software by holding the "Back" and "Up" buttons on the central control pad. Your screen will flicker, and then the Zune logo will appear with a status bar. Within a few moments, your software should be returned to normal.
3. Perform a system restore. However, doing this will erase all of your music, videos and photos, so only do this if you have exhausted both of the other troubleshooting steps. You can restore your Zune by connecting it to your computer, selecting it from the "Devices" list, and then pressing the "Restore" button. The process may take a few minutes, depending on how much content you had on your device. Once the restore has finished, your Zune will be completely blank.

Try this....
Reset Zune: Press and hold the back button while pressing up on the control pad.
Connect Zune to a power source: If the Zune device is in sleep mode, this action will wake the Zune device and turn it on. If the battery does not have a charge, you may have to wait several minutes for the Zune device to turn on.

Also, make sure that the hold button on top of your zune is turned to the off position.

if all else fails...

If you connected the ZUNE to your computer before installing the software the computer may have installed it as a different device.

Go to Control Panel - then System - Device Manager. Plug in ZUNE player and see if any new devices show as being connected. BE CAREFUL IN DEVICE MANAGER THOUGH, IF YOU UNINSTALL THE WRONG ITEM, IT COULD MESS YOUR COMPUTER UP.

Zune sync problems


Hey tybaylock,

If your Zune "locks up" while syncing to your computer, there are several different things that you may want to try.

First, I'd suggest making sure that you've got the latest firmware updates for your Zune and software updates for your computer. In some cases, updating programs (including Windows itself) can improve performance and may even eliminate recurring problems such as this.

Second, you may wish to check if the files you are attempting to sync have any errors. Normally the easiest way to check files is to play them using the Zune software while the Zune itself is still connected to your computer. If there are any problems with the file or it is damaged in any way, the software should encounter playback issues and may display an error message. Additionally, you can even check the Zune software itself after a failed sync. You should be able to do this by clicking on "Device" and then "Status." Then if you expand the "Not Added" section, you should be presented with more information why the files could not be added to your Zune.

If neither of these suggestions resolve the issue, you may want to check out the article below for more information. Microsoft appears to have some additional suggestions available in through their online support center on how to solve this problem, as well as step-by-step instructions when necessary.

PC will not detect my zune.


Hey!! I just fixed mine! I had recently installed drivers for a PS3 controller, and for some reason those were conflicting with the Zune.

To fix it, I went to add/remove programs, and then removed the libusb program, that fixed it instantly! Good luck!
