Question about Poulan "Poulan" Push Mower
Lawn mower with Briggs Stratton engine, constantly revving fast then slow (approx. 3 second cycle), consuming too much gas. I've tried cleaning the air filter and adjusting the throttle springs, which has reduced the magnitude of the revving. However, mower still consuming about 3-4 times as much gasoline as it used to when it ran normally.
Mower is about 8 years old, but has seen perhaps 20 hours of service per year since my lawn is tiny. I've changed the spark plug but not the oil. I've tried regular vs premium gasoline, but that did not seem to make a difference.
Mower is not that expensive, so I don't want to pay a repair shop a lot of money if I can fix myself. I don't want to buy a new mower for such a small lawn if this one can be fixed easily. Thanks in advance for your help.
Most likely problem is dirt?moisture in the carburetor float bowl. You would have to remove the bowl, clean it out and also clean the main jet up in the center of the carburetor. Another problem could be that the governor is out of adjustment but this is not something a novice could or should do
