Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I installed Partion Magic 8.0 on my computer about 5 years ago. At that time I split-up my boot drive (the C drive) and created a second partion (the F drive) from the boot drive. The boot drive (C drive) was allocated 25g and 90g for the new logical F drive. My problem is that I'm running out of space on the boot drive (C drive). When I try to resize the C drive or delete the F drive I get this message: There is no active partion. I didn't take the chance of destroying my boot drive so took the option to "Undo" everything to that point. Can you what I should do in this case?

I would like to use the Partionon Magic utility to handle this. Can you tell me how to re-size the C drive using the Partion Magic software, but avoid getting the message: "There is no active partition". After all, that is why I purchased this product.

You could DELETE drive F: through the Disk Management.

But deleting the drive F: to increase the size of drive C: would take several steps. Because, in order to combine the sizes of the two working partitions, you need to delete the drive F: and then reformat drive C:

If you really would like to combine the storage size, you need to back up the files that's on C: and then delete F: then reformat the drive C:. This should be done on Disk Management Utility.

Please follow the steps below:

(For Windows XP)

1. Right-click 'My Computer' icon > select Manage.
2. Click on Disk Management and there you should see the drive F:
3. Right-click on drive F: and there's an option to 'Delete Logical Drive'
4. After that, right-click C: > select Format
5. Run through the wizard and there would be a part where you need to type the storage size that you want for drive C: At this point, you need to type the maximum (total) capacity of your hard drive. It should be in typed in KB.

After this, the drive C: should have a large storage capacity.

(For Windows Vista)

1. Right-click the 'Computer' icon > select Manage.

Have a great day!

Dell sold me on a partition for my hard drive, but now the C-drive is full and D-drive is virtually empty. How can I increase the size of C at the expense of D?

The only way to adjust the size of a partition is to reformat the hard drive. You might be able to move some files and programs from C to D to free up some space on C, but that's pretty much your only choice.

Rules for runing partitiom magic

The FixYa Team

Thanks for the respone

I have been informed by the VISTAHEAD admin. that vista can not be partitioned by more than 4 parts.
I used the shrink function available in the Vista computer manger , rename the DVD drive label, and labeling the new partitions, then format them as NTFS, then reboot twise for taking the configuration setup and every thing is o.K. without the need for the partition magic.
Now i have only 4 patitions. But didn't know why is this limit?
Beside that i read that the partition magic v8.0 cannt partiton the vista O.S main drive.

Thanks

I can't make format, partions or install windows.

Hi shlmughni,

If you're trying to format this drive, and you have nothing on it you want, then I would suggest that you use a windows 98 boot disk HERE. And first thing you need to do is load dos by putting the floppy disk in your drive A: after you create it from that site of course. Then allow dos to boot up. I'd opt for the allow cd rom option when it asks. After you get a dos prompt A: type in fdisk. Go to the display partions section and see what your drive is partioned as? Once you find that out, I'd delete the partion from the main menu choice delete partion. After that create a new partion from the main menu. Creating a new Dos partion will allow you to choose the size of the partion you want, then after that it will create your new Dos partion. When that's done, exit fdisk, and go to the A: prompt and type in format c: This will format the drive all over again, and give you a clean fresh starting point in which you install your OS.

Good Luck

Lost partion

you have to format drives d, e and f. Go to my computer;then right click on the raw drive (d,for this instance); click format, disk capacity and allocation sizes will be shown; select either quick format or full format. You may also compress the disk. Do the same for drives E and F. Formatting may take a few minutes depending on the size of the drive.Hope this helps.
