Light and Vent on GE Microwave do not work

I have a GE JVM1441WD003 microwave and the range light and vent fan do not work. When I press the button to turn either of them on, the display shows that it is on but nothing happens. I tested the connections with a volt meter this morning and there is no voltage at the connection point.
What do I need to do?

It turned out that I had a faulty smartboard. I have replaced it, but now I think that I have found what caused the board to go bad. When I turn the vent fan on it works fine, but when I turn the lights on, it pops and trips the circuit breaker. What do you think is causing this?

HI. The absent voltage at the connection points will lead to three possible failed components. The first will be the HV transformer. The second will be a failed HV diode, and the last will be a failed HV capacitor.

The capacitor is easily inspected. This will only require a visual inspection. Most capacitors will pop, or swell dramatically, with the occasional leaking of fluids as well. If none of thees issue are visible on or near the HV cap, move on to the diode and HV transformer for further testing.

In most cases, the HV capacitor will be the issue, but inspecting the HV diode, and HV transformer is recommended before replacing the Capacitor in this case.

(((I must include that there are a couple of fuses that may have blown in this case as well. The magnetron cut-off fuse and the AC in-line fuse. Check both fusees for continuity. replace any blown fuse that is found. highly uncommon, but possible)))

The capacitor is faulty. It is not regulating the voltage properly. replace the capacitor(HV).

Test the door lock switch, if it is faulty it will cause fan, vent and turntable motor failure.

If door lock switch is OK, then it is probably a fsulty control board.

Unplug for about 5 minutes and allow to reset. If the problem persist, you might want to try replacing the control panel (the one that have all the numbers and timers). Good Luck!

I have a GE JVM 1870 over the range microwave with the active vent. The interior light is out which is a simply fix. How to I get to it?

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
  1. Light bulb If your microwave light bulb is not working, perhaps it has blown. The first step is to replace the bulb and power on the microwave. If this does not correct the issue, the next step is to check the socket and wiring to verify if that is the problem.
  2. Light bulb socket & main control board If your microwave light bulb is not working after the installation of a new bulb, check the light socket as well as the wiring to ensure they are properly operating. If these sources are functioning properly, the next step is to check for a faulty control board as a possible root cause to your microwave light bulb malfunction.

Vent fan has stopped working. the keypad says vent fan off. when pressing help, it says press this pad. nothing happens.

A low tech solution worked for me.

I too was getting the "Vent Fan Off" message, and despite the fact that everything else worked fine with the microwave, I turned the breaker off and back on from my electrical panel. The fan works fine now.

The fan, vent, light and clear button no longer

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

GE Microwave oven vent fan not working

You are correct the fan motor is either stuck or needs replaced.

There is no way to do this without removing the entire microwave. In case your not familiar with how microwaves work, there is a capacitor that is very large inside and can hold a charge even after it is unplugged for up to 24 hours, please take action to prevent getting shocked.

Start the fan and check the outside vent first.I have found the weatherstrip on the exterior damper can get coated with grease and will become stuck and not allow the damper to open.

GE Microwave Spacemaker oven, Model JVM240

That would almost certainly be a problem on the control circuit board. If the bulbs happen to short / blow out or if they are removed or installed while the microwave is still plugged in, there is often an arc which causes damage to the board. We repair regularly these boards for such problems for $32.50 nationwide.
