All dryers have to have a way of allowing the tumbler (that's the thing you put the clothes in) to turn freely, not all of them are the same tho, some use bearings, some use slides, others use rollers. Over time these rollers will need to be oiled, the slides will get thin and start metal to metal contact causing a noise, The rear bearings will then start to make their way to china and cause the tumbler to rub into the heating element and OUCH! These things will cause the motor to prematurely DIE! Its best to examine the dryers, rollers, and slides when you first hear the noise, but who does? Some repair pictures

My dryer drum won't turn but the electrical panel is lighting up

it is most likely that the belt inside the back of the dryer is broken or loose.

unplug the dryer and remove the back cover of the dryer. it should look something like this:

although the is for a different make of dryer, it should be similar.

I had an older second hand dryer and about 4 months after we moved into a new appartment it started sparking when I hit the start button. It did not happen every time. The spark came from behind the dryer...

I hit the start button and it will not start.

You will need an ohm meter to check but most likely cause is a small white fuse inside the back. Lower left side near the blower wheel.

Kenmore 64112 dryer wont start when I hit the start button

Check house fuses or circuit breaker.
Pull 220V cord from wall outlet and inspect the gold prongs.
If you see any burnt areas on the prongs the outlet is bad.

If the unit makes no noise when you press the start button check the dryer door switch and make sure it clicks when depressed.
Sometimes the door switch arm can break off so when the door closes
the door switch cannot be activated.

If you hear a growl noise when you press the start button 2 things...
1. The motor is bad and needs replacing.
2. An object fell down the lint trap and is preventing the motor from turning.

Also if the dryer vent has been plugged causing the dryer to over heat a saftey fuse may have blown and needs replacement.

Plug sparked when moved and now no heat and timer doesn't work what is a pig tail? how do we replace

Since the electric plug sparked when you plugged it in, I would check out the dryer main power cord or pigtail. Use a multimeter or ohm meter to check the dryer cord for continuity. This will show you whether the dryer cord is good or not. No continuity = bad cord. You can also use the meter to check the electrical block where the dryer cord is connected. Try these things first and let me know what you find out. We'll go from there, okay? Hope this helped and best wishes.

Dryer worked for two days

Yes, you did. I advise you to either call me here Whirlpool Parts Surplus OR get a new pigtale for the dryer. AND a thermal fuse. Take the 9-11 1/4" screws out you will see a white skinny fuse straight down off the outgoing air duct. check continuity or connect the wires. I advise you to get a new cord before you start it again.

Best of luck

Dryer runs intermittently

"Could the cord/plug and/or receptical be bad and need replaced or is it likely to be something in the dryer's internal wiring?"

Yes, that electrical smell and the dryer not working are all signs of a bad motor.

"I noticed that the plug looked like it was somewhat scorched."

I would replace that plug. This is how electrical fires start.

My Maytag dryer won't start when I hit the start button

My dryer light comes on for my Maytag SDE4606AYW dryer when you open the door and I can hear the timer clicking but when I hit start the motor doesn't even attempt to start but there is obviously power. My dad just installed a new power cord to the dryer but this is a seperate issue as we were obviously unable to check the motor before we got a cord for it. He has years of electrical experience so I'm assuming he connected the new cord right. Any ideas on fuses in the dryer or why it may not be getting power?

Dryer does not turn on

Sounds like the motor relay is not functioning. Sometimes the motor will work if the button is pushed but will stop when the button is released. This is caused by a loose wire at the motor or a bad motor relay.
