My router wont work when it is connected to the modem. the message that on there says limited access

Hello,
If you already verified that your modem works if computer connected directly to it, try powering down router and modem. Start modem first and wait at least 2 minutes before starting router.
if this doesn't help you will need to verify that your wired connection to router works first before you can attempt to use wireless.
With your computer connected to the router try to open router setup page. Based on router type you should be able to access it from browser using: http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 you will need to login using default admin/admin account or according to router user manual. Configuration page will allow you to verify if you have Internet connection and configure other settings including wireless connection.

Just having the wireless router without connecting it to cable modem or DSL modem will not allow you to get onto the Internet. The wireless card in your computer/laptop will allow you to get onto the Internet at a free public WiFi hot spot location such as McDonalds, Star Bucks, at the airport.
Also the wireless card in your computer/laptop may allow you to connect into an unsecured wireless router from your neighbors, if their wireless router is within range of your computer/laptop but without their permission to use their Internet, it is considered stealing from your neighbor. They have a set download limit from their Internet Service Provider and by you connecting to their ISP you may cause them to exceed their download limit and they would be charged additional costs for every Mega byte over their limit.

Upgraded to windows 7 and i am unable to connect to the internet. I get a limited or no connectivity

I'm thinking modem/router combination. first power down modem and router. Then leaving router unplugged, power up modem, make sure it's sync up then power up router. If this is a wireless connection search for your networks name on computer/laptop..ie View wireless connection. Windows allows a automatic setup if the wireless connection is unsecured. If it is secured Windows 7 will prompt a pass phrase/ or access code. Good luck. Repeat process if necessary

Unable to connect Acer One D250 netbook to 2wire modem. Limited or no connectivity. I can connect through wireless at work and hardwire.

With an Ethernet cable, connect from the netbook to a LAN port on the 2WIRE modem.

Access the built-in web-server on the 2WIRE modem, and configure the "wireless network settings" to your choice of SSID and network password/passphrase.

Then, from your computer, "View Available Wireless Networks",
and connect to the SSID that you have chosen.

Hi there

I think up to now you've been using someone else's Internet service, by picking up the signal wirelessly. You need your own Internet Service. You now connect your access point in the way the Internet Service Provider guide you. It is a different set up with cable (they provide a modem) or with BT (connection through your phone line).

Msg. conntected with limited access

Try this.

Unplug the Router.
Unplug the modem.
Wait about 15-20 secs.
Reconnect the modem.
wait about a minute or until all the lights are solid on the display.
Reconnect the Router.
Wait about another minute until everything is given time to start up.
Try connecting again.

If it still does that, it may be a problem with your computer that your trying to access with wirelessly.

My mother had that problem on one of her laptops, it turned out that her particular installation didn't support WPA or WEP incryption. I did a full reinstall and now it works.

If you want to avoid a full reinstall you can try uninstalling the wireless network card, then reinstalling it.(Make sure you go to your manufacturers web site first to download the proper driver for your model)

I hope this helps,
Simon.
