Gina, That is because either the CD is dirty, clean it in straight motions like + not round, or the CD is corrupt, or both. You donot format a computer. You format a HDD. Is that what you did? If not, then the previous installation could also be doing the trick. So, next time you install Windows do it in a different folder, eg, WINXP or GINA or whatever and then you can delete the old one to get more disk space. after the installation.

Omnitech not find exe file

Dear Gxp_mc16,

Can you open your external and see all files? If you can open it and can access any other files inside the external drive then the problem will have more chances to resolve. For the first step you might need to try this software: download it and install it on your computer and follow the steps. If the problem is not too serious the software will solve it.

My case two weeks ago with Canvio 3.0 500GB was even more difficult. I could not see and access my external after my computer crashed and the external attached to it. My Windows OS computer always ask me to "reformat" the external drive. I tried it with other computers all with WIN 7 OS, same problem. My external need to be reformat. It made me crazy because there are too many important files in it. Then I met this software . I Install the software and I scan the external for the whole night (about 8 hours). Luckily, all my files could be recovered and accessed although it is separated. Then I copied all important files into my internal drive. Then I reformatted the Canvio. Until now I am still using it without any problem.

Everytime i copy files to my usb flash drive, the files from my usb that was copied has unknown characters on the folders and filenames.. pls help me to solve this problem.. how to repair my flash drive?...

You will probably need to reformat it.

For windows, right click on the drive and hit "Format"

For Mac go to Utilities -> Disk Utility and reformat it from there.

Remember to backup any important files on it first!

Hope this helps!

Fat alloc error

FAT == File Allocation Table (like a 'Table of Contents' in a printed book)

ALLOC == Allocation

Some of the contents of that 'Table of Contents' are invalid.

So, copy all the files from the Memory Card onto your computer, to save a copy of those files.

Burn a CD/DVD disk with a copy of those files.

Then, "reformat" the Memory Card, to write a "new" and "empty" 'Table of Contents' onto the device.
Then, copy all the files back onto the Memory Card.

I have a sandisk 8gb usb stick, I am tryind to copy files from windows xp to it but cant, i keep getting file not specified error. I can copy over small files on to it but nothing big. I know the stick is...

You need to re-format your Flash Drive. The default is FAT32 which only allows files of up to 4GB to be transfered. If you reformat to NTFS, ANY size file can be copied to your FLASH DRIVE.

WARNING ! ! By reformatting, you will loose ALL your data on your Flash Drive. Good Luck

Reformatted error

Do your files open when you hook it up to the USB in your computer? If so copy and save them there then try reformatting the player's drive.
If you can't copy the files to your computer, go to, (click on "proceed to site") and pick a file recovery app. Use that to recover your music files to your computer, then try reformatting your mp3 player. If it reformats and works OK you're lucky --if not at least you will have copied your music.

My Book 1Tb will not let me put movies on it

I know exactly what your problem is. You are trying to add a file bigger than 4 GB on a fat32 external hard drive. You simply cant put something that big in there without breaking it into smaller bits. You could easily add a bunch of small files just not huge files bigger than 4GB.
Your solution would be to reformat your WD external drive to a ntfs. That can be done as easy as right clicking your external drive through my computer and highlighting "reformat". Good luck and I hope you dont forget this little thing about computers..sometimes when you get a good deal on pc hardware its for a reason :)
this is good for all hard drives including western digital
