Quite often you need a NON passive adaptor.
I use a variety of KVM's and have only found one type that actually works.
The short solid looking green ones dont tend to work too well.
On this page are a few types and the one that looks like a "Y" adaptor I have found works in most cases.
Be aware though that if you have special keys on your keyboard as many do today that they may not always work.
That is not a fault on the keyboard but usually an unavoidable by product of using KVM's
