This could very well be a problem with the color wheel or ballast. It is quite common. You can get a service manual and test it.

Normally a blue screen means no signal input (nothing playing) and the black is after a while to save the screen itself (screen saver option). I still need more info, when does it do this and is there still sound?????

Sorry I cant find the Hitachi trouble codes. The flashing 8 times indicates there is a problem and the 8 times is a code that that tells you what is/is not working proprly.

if you open the set and have some stand in front of it you tap the board to see if pix come back if it do them you have bad solder you can see the g2 on your pix tube

TV screen Flashes blue and then shuts off.

When it flashes blue, are the flashes bright blue lines going across the screen with the picture in the background, if so, It sounds like the Blue tube or blue driver circuit is breaking down after a short period of time. If this is the case, the uPC that controls the set is detecting a large current drain on and is shutting the set off for protection, An engineers expert eye is required I`m afraid. Ian.

Kines on Screen and Fading

Open up the front of the set by removing the speaker screen and the black piece of particle board. on the bottom right you will see 4 knobs. Turn those knobs slowly till the arcs go away. The 3 knobs on the bottom are for color. the 3 on top are for the focus.
