Run at least one or maybe two cleaning cycles then run the test printout to see if it is OK.

Clicking noise when printing

Had similar problem. Putting my hands on the front surface of the printer, the click seemed to be felt strongest in front of the pink ink cartridge. I took the cartridge out, looked at the back of it, where there's a little black wheel, and tried turning it. That wheel was stuck (whereas the other colors & the black would turn). Tried printing with the pink cartridge out and no more clicking noise. I guess I'll just replace my pink cartridge. Maybe see if there's a similar problem with one of your cartridges?

Ink clog between magenta cartridge and print head.

print head may be burned out try cleaning it then tap the cartridge and try a test page to see if it prints, if it still does not work try a new cartridge if that does not work then the print head is burned out, it may be under warranty you can go to www.hp.com and input your model and follow the trouble shooting guide and if you can't fix it you can register for free live chat help with the problem and it may be under warranty, many printers are having problems with this color cartridge drying up and causing problems not only hp but other brands as well. I suspect the pigment drys up but am not sure about it.

Done all the things you advise to clear the print heads, it seems to relate to the large back cartridge, ink flow seem ok, sponge pad at base of cartridge moist with ink. All other inks fine on test print....

Yes, the print head is clogged.Try unclogging manually.Open the cover and first remove the ink cartridges. Then open the holder and remove the print head.Run hot tap water and put the print head with the nozzles up to stream water.Hold that 5 mins then turn the print head around
with the nozzles down.Hold that for every color of 5 mins. Then put the print head in hot water with the nozzles down.Left it water about 15 mins and then you must very nice to dry. When the print head dry put it in printer and start cleaning. If this not help you need to replace the print head. It's part number is QY6-0075.

Printer won't print, makes clicking noise, on/off light flashing

This method should put you on a fresh footing.

1. Go to start button when programs appears see if you can find your printer in the list, see if it has an uninstall program.
2. If not: Go to start click on printers and faxes.
3. Delete the printer giving you a tough time.
4. Reinstall using your installation CD.
That should work.

Ink cartridge (not) installed properly

For the Canon iP1800 printer are you sure you're using the 30 for black and 31 for color?

And make sure they "click" when installed. That should confirm that they're nice and tight in their ink compartments.

Besides that, maybe reinstalling the printer drivers could do something?

Color not printing

If you are making copies or sending/receiving faxes Press Black Start or Color Start. Make sure your ink cartridges are fresh. Cartridges remain fresh for up to two years if kept in their original packaging, after that the ink may become clogged. Cartridge expiration dates are printed on the package.

Red not printing

The only thing I can suggest, short of replacing it, is to shake the cartridge, hard. That sometimes will clear interior clogging. If you see fresh ink on the bottom, you're on your way. Put the cartridge back in and run another cleaning.

Failure to print in Black ink

I see this alot in epsons. What is happening is probably this:

The carriage that you put your cartridges in is called a printhead.
connected to the printhead is a long tube for pumping wasted ink down to a waste pad that soaks up the ink. Over time the ink builds and clogs the hose, which backs up and clogs the print head. It is usually more common to happen at the install of a fresh cartridge and it does that first charge. To make a long story short, unless you can hot chemicals to run through it, it is dying.
