Question about Kenmore 24 in. 17263 Dishwasher

1 Answer

Kenmore 17263 has a noisy motor and is leaking at the motor

Kenmore 17263 is leaking water at the motor (white deposits of calcium or soap and rust are present). For some time now the water spray in the dishwasher has been weak, the motor makes grinding/labouring noise, even after checking the spray arms for clogs, cleaning with vinegar, and disassembling and cleaning the screen and grinding mechanism areas. Do I replace just the motor or motor and sump assembly?

I am not familiar with your particular model - so take my advice lightly.
Usually the motor and sump (not the bottom pan) come as one assembly that come as a unit. Replacing both is usually easiest and economical considering that a motor problem could be caused by something wrong with the sump, or the other away around.
Thiis is something you can fix yourself if you are mechanically inclined.

Testimonial: "This helps, I ordered the sump/motor but received motor only. Perhaps the noise may be in the sump as suggested and replacing both is best."

How to use acid citric to clean a thermal 5lr boiler

Use CLR or white vinegar. If it is a plumbed in unit, there is usually a small bypass tank at the rear and a crossover valve where you put the descaler and then run the cycle. On others, you fill the water tank and run the descale program.

The amount of Citric Acid you would need is prohibitive, CLR is a better product.

CLR Calcium, Lime & Rust Remover is a powerful formula that quickly and easily dissolves and removes tough calcium and lime deposits as well as surface rust stains from bathtubs, toilet bowls, sinks, glass, chrome, fiberglass, stainless steel, most coffee makers, humidifiers, dishwashers, washing machines and ...

How do you open the soap dispenser on a Kenmore Ultra Wash dishwasher?

Push the little lever sticking out of the dispenser.
Maybe you have some calcium or hardened soap that is holding the lid closed. some Lemi-Shine powder dissolved in hot water and use an old toothbrush to clean off the soap/hard-water deposits.

Model z-110 white powder build-up around the outside end of the motor. no water leaking at this time. motor runs on 240 v. BOB ADAMS

White powder build up would indicate to me calcium deposit but calcium is usually a pretty hard caked on product once produced.
Coming out of the back of the motor is usually caused by the friction of the windings working.

Steam holes on the plate are letting out limescale onto clothes, is there a way to clean out iron

Yes you fill the Iron with White Vinegar (the acidic Vinegar dissolves the lime deposits), and then flush with hot water, then clean the bottom with CLR (Calcium Lime and Rust remover) brand cleaner from any hardware store. This also is how deposits are cleaned out of a Coffee pot.

Ge profile...white crusty deposits in rotary sprayer... white deposits on dishes... soap remains

Hi eino...... empty the dishwasher and pour in two cups of vinegar. Then run your longest and hottest cycle. This should clean the interior and make it good as new, including the rotary sprayer. IF it does not do it, then go to the hardware store and get a bottle of CLR. That is a calcium, lime and rust remover. Use 2 cups in the dishwashwasher just as you did with the vinegar. Joe

Door does not open to dispense soap

Often times the latch needs cleaning from the accumulated calcium and soap caked around the latch. Use an old toothbrush or sometimes something a little stiffer to scrub around the latch, the dispenser cups and in the general area. If there is still accumulation a small amount of CLR [calcium-lime-rust] remover will break down the accumulation. We had a Kenmore running in very hard water situation that wouldn't open and we just left it open and didn't worry about the dispenser door releasing. We did this because we always scraped off all the food in the sink before putting dishes in the dishwasher and then ran on the water miser setting which requires only one of the soap dispenser wells to be filled.

How do I dissolve dishwasher calcium deposits w/o causing leaks

The best gentlest way that really won't harm anything except the calcium, is White Vinegar, mix up a solution and water, try a 75% mix first, and try that. T

Water Pouring out of door, appliance stuck on wash

dishwasher leaking from the door or from the bottom of the door is common problem and yes its advisable to get it fixed.but if its having any other problem other then leaking then it has to be checked first.but leaking problem is common it can be solved.first from which part of the door area the leak is occuring that has to be checked.
Some common leaking trouble makers....
Leaks at the door:
Door gasket loose/torn
Corner gaskets or door baffle/vent gasket
Door lock/latch loose/broken
Split spray arm
Over filling with water...usually the level is just under the heating element is normal
Something leaking through the door...like the soap or rinse agent dispenser gasket, silverware basket button.
Door hinge(s) bent
Wrong soap was used...dish sink soap instead of dishwasher soap
Rinse aid being used with mechanically softened water ( makes foam or suds inside the dishwasher )

Leaks from under the unit:
Look for whiting or calcium stain on the motor and pump assembly = motor and pump assembly seal leak...access panel removal help
Hose for upper spray arm split
Fill hose split or fill hose spout air inlet is calcium covered
Drain hose is split
Rusted liner...metal liners only
Fill valve leaking or allowing water to fill all the time
Heating element ends....where they come out through the dishwasher liner
Float or float gasket
for parts you can get it from

Brown gunge and white deposits keep coming out of the steam holes on the sole plate. We have tried de-scaling but it has had no effect. This iron has had very little use since we bought it about 18 months...

Try filling full-strength white vinegar instead of water. Then allow to steam out on scrap cloth. The white deposits are likely to be calcium. The brown gunge may be rust. When the deposits are minimized, use only distilled or bottled water from then on.
