Question about HP PSC 1315 All-In-One InkJet Printer
My HP 1310 psc worked great for about 4 1/2 years, then, the scanner stop working 8 months ago, gave me an error message, but the rest was fine. Then, just a few weeks ago I could no longer use the printer, I will get an error message. Now only the copy facility works.
I have tried to reinstall the software using the original CD. It goes through 7 steps out of 8 and I get the 'OK' screen with the 'installation sucessful' message and the 'click next to continue' (It should complete all 8 steps).
It then proceeds to the installation and just after reaching 20% it stops with the following error message:
D:\Setup\hpzmsi01.exe -m scan -I ENU -f c:\WINNT\hpoins03.dat -Validate No -w 263200 -drvreinst
(this happens at step 3 - Installing), I have tried to reinstall it several times but every time it stops in the same spot with the same error message. I am using Windows 2000 and have plenty of space in the HD
(I can provide pics of the installation process on a Word doc)
Microsoft Operating System protocol is to install first and then always have drivers and applications install on top of them. More often than not the drivers are outdated and rendered unusable by many of the operating system updates and then need to be updated themselves by the relevant vendor or have to be uninstalled and then reinstalled. Of recent times this has become more and more of an issue due to complexities in the registry and in the COM fabric of the operating system. The registry often gets clogged up with superfluous entries and needs cleaning out to improve performance just like the HD inside the PC needs defragmenting occasionally. Unfortunately when many of the updates from Microsoft and many other software vendors are applied they leave their old entries in the registry and just write new ones - simply because it is convenient and easier for them to do so.
Uninstall the application and drivers using the HP remove utility. It is not sufficient to use the Operating System uninstall as it does not work that well. The Registry, Application, Folders and drivers need to be totally removed.
A registry clean is recommended. You can do this by downloading a free 30 day use of Ashampoo from www.ashampoo.com and clean up your system of all the unnecessary entries. I have been using it for a few years now with grate success and no problems. You can always restore any deleted entries before binning them forever.
Once completed then reboot the PC then reinstall the HP drivers and application. Make sure these are the latest ones available from HP support for Win2000 at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=181&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=au&product=374568&lang=en
