1. May be your hard drive is old and that's why a few or more files are corrupted.Change it.
2. Check your ram if you are more than one slots try using only one.
3. Try reinstalling your operating system.this is the final resque(try this only when above all fails because all your data will be lost when u reinstall)

Try to connect it to different USB port, try it with another PC. What OS are you running? Try to see your discs status in Computer Management - Disk Management.
