Flash Card Reader / Writer

I just bought a generic usb card reader because it said it was windows 98 Compatible. It did not come with a driver. I went on line and found a generic driver. If I go to explorer and click on the drive I can see my pictures. However, image expert just gives error codes. How can I get my photo program to download the pictures.

Guess that image expert is required pretty cool system: you can get your picture without using image expert: Go to my computer, Then browse your Flash card directory Example: flash card (D:) or (e:) , you can copy your pictures into your computer and explore your picture maybe using photo photo editor.

Computer is not seeing verbatim usb 3.0 card reader

Try a different usb port on your computer. If you using ones on the front, try the ones in the back. If that doesn't work, try the reader on a different computer. If the reader doesn't work it is most likely defective. A pretty common occurance with usb card readers in general.

Also try putting a card in the card reader before inserting it into the computer, not while it is plugged in.

Good luck

I cant open my sd/mmc card reader and writer.

Some SD and MMC have a security feature in them. If so you will need the disk that came along with it. After you install it then that's the time you can fully utilize your SD/MMC. SD means Secure Data / MMC means Multi Media Card.
If your card reader is not appearing in the My Computer then check if it is detected in the Windows device manager. Go to START > CONTROL PANEL > DEVICE MANAGER. Usually it is under the category of Disk Adapters or Human Interface Device. If it's not present then unplug and plug the device back in. Or try a different USB port to see if that will work. If it doesn't then most likely the reader is defective. But if it is detected and still not able to read the SD/MMC and the SD is being read by a different computer then the issue could be that the SD is not compatible with the reader.

If it's a USB card reader, go here and download the universal USB driver for Win98 or Win98SE:

One of my machines is Win98 and this driver has never failed me. Install the driver first, then plug in the device and the hardware wizard will detect it and do the install.

If instead you have a 9-in-1 reader that goes in a 3.5 inch bay (like a diskette drive), that is an IDE device and needs to be attached like hard drive or CD-ROM, then your operating system will recognize it.

I need drive for transcend d33193 usbdrive

I think this is a Windows 98 forum. If so, I may have a solution.

Download and install this free (Generic Storage USB Device) driver named "wtgenusb-zip" from Register with for free membership. Use their search tools using keywords like "Window 98", "USB", "Storage" and look for "wtgenusb-zip".

It's a rediculously small file to download, only 11Kb. The "zip" file must be extracted which can be done on any computer running Windows XP, then copy the files over on a floppy disk. However extracting it on a computer running Windows 98 will require a seperate program like "Winzip" or "Pkunzip" (for DOS).

Copy the extracted files to any folder of your choice on your Win98 machine. Use the "Install Hardware Wizard" to navigate to that folder to install the driver to enable your USB storage device.

WTGENUSB worked great for me, permitting my Win98 to access my USB Flash drives, 250Gb Portable hard drive, and Digital Camera card reader. Good luck.

Sd card

First you need to see if the computer reconizes the reader, to do this you double click on the computer icon on your desktop, then look to see if there are any drives other than your hard drive and cd roms. If the computer does not see the reader then you may need to download drivers. As to how to get the drivers it depends on your setup if the reader was installed in the computer when you bought it then you will want to go to the computer manfactuer website, if you bought the reader seperatly then you should have recived a disk with it if not go to the website of the card reader manfactuer.

Hope this helps.

Problem with my video card and sound card

No, that card is not compatible with Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). It is only compatible with Windows 2000/XP/XPx64/MCE.

Compatibility meaning there are no drivers available for Windows 98/98SE.

Microsoft Windows 98 for PC Problem is there any software driver for pen drive so that my win98 o.s. computer can detect any type or companies pen drive plz tell me

wow, the 90's are a calling... sure their is a roumor of a usb pen driver for win 98' ....

Windows 98, especially in it's second edition (also known as Windows 98SE), handles USB fairly well, however there are no generic/universal mass storage device drivers preinstalled in the operating system, so you will need to install some additional drivers for it. Some manufacturers do however, provide the Windows 98 drivers on CD, others have them available to download, and others simply do not have them available at all!!!!!!!

generic Windows 98SE USB mass storage device drivers:

instructions?? :

  1. Download the exe file to the desktop
  2. Remove ALL drivers for USB flash drives in Device Manager
  3. Remove ALL drivers for any USB 2.0 controllers (many have an uninstall option)
  4. Remove ALL unknown devices from Device Manager (*carefull)
  5. Run the exe file you downloaded, and follow the instructions, rebooting after installation
  6. When the computer boots up again, it may detect new USB 2.0 controllers, in which case you may need to reboot again

as always good luck! now im going to go back to my windows 95 and play Bioshock on full graphics!! excuse me = )
