DVI output problems with Acer Veriton M464

Hi, I'm just about to send my Acer Veriton M464 pc back to Acer to find out why it won't output to a Dell 1503FP Flat Panel Color Monitor with a DVI cable, either from my Nvidia 9500GT 1Gb card or the DVI output on the Motherboard.

The Acer Tech who booked it in for investigation thought it was a Mobo fault. A tech at Maplins reckoned that DVI needed to be switched on at the Control Panel > Display > DVI

I'm positive that the PC would automatically recognise a DVI monitor from the outset because of PnP. He thinks that Acer don't switch that on automatically. His advice does appear suspect, because, running Vista Business in Control Panel there is no Display Option, and I can't find anything that does suggest manually choosing between DVI and VGA. When I mentioned a Bios setting to the Acer tech, he said that an LCD monitor is recognised by the VGA/EGA setting.

Can anyone advise. Thank you.

PS when Dell monitor is connected to the 9500GT dvi port or the mobo dvi port, I don't get the Acer bootup screen and the PC doesn't boot up, it just hangs. I get the beep and that is it, with no display.

Wow. Don't feel like having a go at this one as it's still under warranty. I've watched a friend do that to an old pc of mine but don't feel confident enough to try that.

But the fact that you suggested it, seems to suggest that you don't feel it's a Windows issue, but something on the Mobo?

If you are comfortable with opening the case, you can try this: Unplug the power supply, make sure are constantly grounded (touching metal)remove add-in video card. Locate the "Clear CMOS" jumper (usually 3 pins in a row with two shorted via a plastic jumper). Remove the jumper and short the other 2 pins (if originally pins 1-2 with 3 open, short 2-3 with 1 open) for a few seconds. Then replace on original pins. Plug monitor into motherboard video port and power on. If it works, you can leave as is or try to re-install your video card following the same precautions when opening the case and probably changing BIOS settings to utilize the add-on card.

My acer veriton m464 goes to black screen with a flashingline in top left corner please help

This symptom usually means a hardware problem. Remove any and all external devices plugged into the various ports, like USB devices, etc. Remove all the removable plug in devices...like the hard drive, the DVD/CD drive, and PCMCIA cards. Remove the battery.

Plug in the AC, and then power up - do you see an error screen?

Acer Veriton M464 E4700 2.6Mhz cpu upgrade on MCP730 Mobo

Go to www.newegg.com and whatever you want to upgrade click on that item and match it up with your current board (by looking at the specifications and matching them). I suggest to buy a new mobo and all new processors and ram. You can use your old case, hard drive and all that good stuff that is removable.

Just purchased an Acer Veriton M464 recently. The keyboard musnt be confifigured properly as some of the buttons are mixed up and the right hand side number keys dont work! What can i do?

I'd say unplug the keyboard, boot the computer without the keyboard, then use the windows key to shut it down, then plug it in and turn it back on, if it continues to do the same thing you can look for a secondary program running that handles the keyboard and see if it has a configuration option. If none of these things seem helpful, look in the bios, see if there is something funky in there that handles keyboard functions. If all else fails, purchase a cheezy keyboard from best buy and try that, if it works properly then u know it's the keyboard, if it doesn't, return the entire system as it could be a malfunction with the "bios" basic input output system that is not translating information properly.

Just a fyi, I'd return it anyway and get a dell.
