Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Samsung 40 inch LCD HDTV. I am getting a red shadow effect on all channels. Whenever a white surface appears on the screen, it is colored pink and and the deeper the shadows on the screen, the redder the shadows get. We have replaced: the entire inside of the TV, have switched satellite boxes, switched out the cables - in other words everything has been changed, yet the problem still persists. Everything is connect according to the manual. The problem appears on the TV whether I'm watching TV or a DVD. The reddish backgrounds last for 1 to 2 hours after turning the TV on and then fades out. As you can realize, this is making me very annoyed. By the way, I even connected a power conditioner in the for the TV. I know that Samsung TVs get high ratings, but this one looks like a lemon. Can anybody help? Thanks

The TV is about 6 months old. However, I have not tried the cable solution you have suggested. I will do so at my first opportunity. Not being very "TV savvy," can you describe the cables that I will need. I will try them and let you know. Thanks

Your issue is quite unique. Based on your statement, I would assume that the TV is almost a new unit since you have replaced everything? Is there any original part left which may exist which can be isolated as a problem. If the entire board has been replaced it may be the screen that is faulty. If you are using one cable for your DVD or TV, such as the HDMI, try to use the RCA or the round cable for the video or the 3 rca cable which has red, green and blue colors. If you are using the 3 cables it may be an issue with the port as it may be messing with the signals that go to the TV's board. I might go far on this one but is it possible to isolate the tv, have it moved from anything else except your signal source just to make sure it is not any magnetic field that is causing the problem.

I have a similar issue with Samsung LN46N610. Red (and green to a lesser extent) text or graphics on light background creates something like a shadow or blurred edge. My PC is connected to HDTV via HDMI cable. I don't have this issue when I use Toshiba 46XV645U (Toshiba a different audio problem though) HDTV

How do I get rid of purple and green wiggly lines? The black screen that appears when switching between channels was green a couple of weeks ago, that problem stopped after I unplugged the set for a while....

You have a bad LCD control board,It overheats and causes colored lines, screen to darken,or the color go floresent. Also check the power supply for bad caps.
when you have it apart. They usualy go bad on these tv's. It will cause the tv to take longer to come on.Or you have to hit the power button several times to get it on.
