Question about HP Officejet 5610 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Printing cuts off first character at left margin.

Frequently when printing a download on lanscape documents an area about the size of the first character is not printed. This also happens at home on a similar All-In-One printer and computer. Is there a software tweak I can do to print this area? Thanks for any assistance.

SOURCE: Scale from legal to letter

Legal size is 11x17 inches and you cannot get a legal length document when selected for landscape.
Landscape means that it is 11 inches high and 17 inches wide.
You need to set it to letter and select 11x17 inches.

SOURCE: Printer does not print whole document

In 'Print Preview' look at the margins, and see if anything is too close to the edge of the paper. If it is, then set your margins further from the edge, or drag graphics further from the edge, etc.

To correct the margins that are set to close to the edge of the paper, open the document in Microsoft Word and follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that you are using the same printer driver that gave you the error in Microsoft Word Viewer.
  2. In Word, on the File menu, click Page Setup.
  3. Click OK.

You receive a warning dialog box about the unprintable regions.
  4. Click the Fix button.
  5. Save and close the document.
You can now open and print the document in Word Viewer without receiving the error message.

SOURCE: Unwanted 'dots' on printout

There is a dot somewhere on the drum, remove the drum and toner cartridge from the machine, then remove toner from drum. Look at the shiny roll, you can turn it from the black gear on the side. Once you find the dot use a cue tip dipped into little bit of alcohol and clean it off.

Left margin cuts off text

If text is cutted of, this is a problem of the settings of your paper size. It can be different according the software you are using (Do you print from MS Word or some other application?) You have to control the paper size settings in your driver. In your pop-up screen of the printersettings, you'll see an example on the right side. It shows the printing area. You can change it on the left size. Sometimes the numbers doesn't change, than you need to push the button 'properties' and look for the papersize in here. If that also doesn't work, make a pdf of your document and try to print it again, and hit the button 'paper size based on pdf' in your driver.

On my Laserjet 3015, in Microsoft Word, if I set top, bottom, left, and right margins to 1", on the printed page, the margins print as Top 1", Left 15/16", Right 1-1/8", and Bottom...

The default paper selection/ size in MS Word is 'letter'. you may have designed the document on letter size and while printing you have A4 size paper in the printer.
So, Make sure that you design the document on the same paper size (such as A4, which is commonly used). Secondly, while printing don't print the document directly. From the Print dialogue option choose the exact paper size and un-check (de-select) any option of paper resizing (if available). You will have the documents printed exactly as designed.

Let me know if any further clarification/ assistance is required.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I need to print some cards with my printer, is it possible to reduct margin to zero? I have created the document without margins, but the printer cuts part of te documents... thank you for your help!

This is normal. Practically all printers have a 'non-printable area' which forms a border at the top and bottom and left and right hand sides of the page. Whilst your software may allow you to work with a zero margin, your printer is physically incapable of printing in the non-printable area and will simply cut-off any text or images that overflow into this region.

The best solution is to reduce the number of cards on your page so that you can bring the text back within the printable area of the page. Then print with normal or wide margins and trim the excess from your cards.

A few letters are cut off on left side

it could be a software problem. Please make sure that in the software where your printing originated, the paper size is set exactly as compared to the actual paper you use for printing. Example, if you are printing using an A4 paper, make sure that the document is laid out using the A4 setup with correct margins not exceeding the paper's printable area.

Unusual character where special character or underline is given

If you have a spare USB cable around the house, try that first and see if the cable was bad.

Printing document

Did you change the top margin setting?

Make sure that the paper size is correct in the printer settings of the control panel when you print. You have to tell it what size paper you are printing on.

Margins not recognised

Hi lerona - I have a 5600C series HP printer. You might try these tips:
Do a Print Preview to be sure the document looks right on your screen, then in Print Setup, down in the Zoom box check the Scale to Paper Size to be sure it isn't set for the wrong paper size. There's an arrow to scroll to the size you're printing on.

Then click Properties, then the Paper Quality tab. There's an item that says "minimize margins". You could try printing with the box checked (if it's not now), or unchecked (if it IS now) and see the difference. Click the Effects tab and be sure the "normal size" box says 100%, and that there's no check mark in the "borderless printing" box.

I print documents all the time, as well as photos, smaller sized items, cards, etc., and have had no trouble with the margins printing differently than my Print Preview shows on my screen. I hope these tips help you. Good luck, and feel free to email me if you have any success with my suggestions.
