Hi,
I had a similar problem with my Fuji FinePix S5500; nothing I tried 'in-camera' would allow me to reformat the xD Picture Card and every time I turned the camera on, I got the same error message - "card not initialised".

I have used the camera with the same xD card since purchased over 5 years ago without problem. I believe this issue was caused by uploading the images on the card to a Mac instead of the usual Windows PC.

This solution fixed the problem, allowing me to reformat the card...

Connect the camera to your PC using USB2 and turn the camera on so the PC detects the device. If you have images on the disc, it is a good idea to upload them to the PC (whether you choose to delete images after uploading or not, is up to you, but reformating will delete them anyway, so I do).

When the images have uploaded, go to START, go to Computer, click on Device then right-click and choose Format. From the new window that opens, choose Default settings then click OK... job done! Be patient while it reformats, the time it takes will vary according to disc capacity (mine was 134MB and took around 4 minutes).

Hope this sorts it for you; good luck!

Hi
It sounds like the card is faulty (it does happen). I had one that acted similarly. You could try using the card in another camera to check - I have a card that works OK in Olympus camera but not at all in Fuji!
Best of luck
Martin

When I turn the camera on, it says "card not initialized", but it's the same card I have used always. The card is good. I took it to a store and all the pics were still there. Help!

This happens sometimes if the card was inserted into a computer or another camera or when a camera is disconnected from a computer without using the "safely remove hardware" function. You need to get a card reader and use it to download your pictures to your computer. Then, insert the card into the camera, go into the menu and find "format" (may be called "initialize") and follow the on-screen instructions to erase the card and initialize it. typrice_35.jpg

Just down loaded pics to pc, put memory card back into camera (f20le) but coming up "card not initilized" any solutins

Sounds like you didn't use the "safely remove hardware" when you pulled out the card. If the pics are safely on the computer, go ahead and format/initialize the card in the camera.

HOW DO YOU INITIALIZE PICTURE CARD FOR A FUJI FINEPIX A330 CAMERA

"initialize" means to format the card in the camera. This will erase it so download any pics first using a card reader if necessary. Then, with the card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" or "initialize" and follow the on-screen instructions.

I am trying to get my pictures downloaded onto my computer. I don't know what button I purshed, but...it wont let me get photos from camera to computer. It says "card not initialized" What do I need to...

Whatever you do, do not Initialize or format the card. Get a card reader and use it to download to your computer. Then, when the pics are safe, format the card in the camera.

After deleting photos from the memory card, it now says "card not initialized", when put back into the camera, none of the functions seem to fix it, can you help?

If your pics are safely on your computer, follow these rules: 1. Never erase pics using the computer...always use the camera. 2. Never remove anything from the computer USB ports without using the "safely remove hardware" function. 3. Now, your card needs to be formatted in the camera.

Card not initialized

unfortunately SD cards are very unreliable. if the card is recognized by your computer but you are still unable to view the pics... you have to format the card - This will result in the loss of all data on the card. If you perform a quick format you could try using an undelete software - A great suite of software is called glary utilities and it includes an undeleter. but i dont know if you will be able to save them or not
