Installing Windows 7 - CD/DVD driver missing message.

When installing Windows 7 onto my Compaq Presario V2000, I get the following error message - A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

When I put it my driver cd it says that no drivers can be located.

Can anyone advise me what to do? Thanks!

I followed HP's Recommendations and finally STEP 6 worked for me.

Hi,

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Does the Windows Installation complete and have you tried skipping when it asks for them? Also make sure your install disc hasn't got a big thumb print or scratch on it.

I have a compaq presario v2000 and i ac97 on it and it says it was unable to run... what are some options?

This depends on the operating system you are running, from the looks of it, the notebook you own shipped with Windows Vista and it appears AC '97 is not compatible with that. The first thing I would try is to right click the shortcut to the program and click the compatibility tab. Make sure to try all types of operating systems before giving up on that. If the following does not work I would recommend running a copy of virtualbox (http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) or VMWare (http://www.vmware.com/) to virtually run windows xp. Also, partitioning your hard drive and installing xp onto that partition is an option and you can read up on that here (http://lifehacker.com/#!5126781/how-to-dual-boot-windows-7-with-xp-or-vista) and just do all of the steps in mind of installing xp instead of windows 7 as the tutorial suggests.

Cannot install Sound drivers

Try downloading and installing the "Realtek AC97 audio driver". I've had similar problems on xp before and this driver solved the problem

Need help with Compaq Presario v2000 drivers

Your DVD drive is missing the Burning Program not the driver. I found an update for your windvd software for windows 7 but you probably have to have the full program installed to run the update. Hope this helps.

Try installing a DVD rom. The sony unit installed in your laptop is a cd rom/burner. Cd roms will not play DVDs.

Sound driver

There is no problem with that, simply select "install anyway".
The message means that the hardware vendor (RealTek in this case) did not have the device driver signed (approved) by Microsoft. But this does not mean it is not a valid driver.

You don't need drivers for optical devices (CD and DVD drives) as Windows has native support for them.

It sounds like a corrupt Registry entry, which is common with XP.

The following should fix it.

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)

Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

Quit Registry Editor.

NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software.

Restart your computer.

Reinstalling Windows on Presario V2000

Well, you can install XP as long as you have a CD and your laptop has a COA with a key. Hit delete, F2 or F10 to start the system in setup, change the order of boot devices to make the CD your primary boot device. Restart, boot into the CD and follow the prompts. After you complete your installation you can go to www.hp.com SUPPORT and DOWNLOADS and find whatever drivers you are missing. Take your time and you'll do fine.
