Hard disk not present in bios

Hello try to download, the user manual here:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp

By selecting: sattelite, and the full model number.

The number is located under the pc.

You're going to have to look around in BIOS for a setting to enable the SATA controller. You may also have to set it to "IDE mode"

But the harddrive could have a fault, try with a new harddrive.

Good luck

The previous hard driver was bad. I replaced it with a new hard drive. I used the Toshiba default factory setting to reinstall the softeware and now my laptop will not boot up.

Toshiba default factory setting can only restor your software if you have backup copy on New Harddrive.

As your old Harddrive crashed, you have to reinstall Operating system and requie software on new Harddrive.

Toshiba satellite a205-s5831 Received kernel data error. Hard drive has clicking noises. Programs ran slow. Chkdsk running now for over 15 hours and only on 11%..preplacing bad clusters.

When a harddrive starts clicking it's on it's way out.
Buy a new harddrive and at the same time get a USB to laptop harddrive adapter. You can reinstall XP with the recovery disks that came with your machine ans then slave your old drive to your laptop and recover your personal files.
If you really want to get technicalbuy an Apricorn housing: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602
And two new harddrives, fit one new harddrive to the Apricorn housing and try to install the EZgig cloning software to your dying Windows. You can clone your existing Windows install to the new harddrive in the Apricorn housing and then move that drive to your laptop, the second new harddrive can then be fitted to the Apricorn housing and used as an external harddrive.
EZgig comes with the Apricorn housing and you could even go so far as to create a clone of your Windows install to the new external harddrive. The Apricorn housings are excellent, they are small enough to carry in your laptop case and all they need for power is a USB port.
