You need to run the uninstall from Control Panel. Like many applications Adobe does not completely uninstall and leaves some files and some registry entries in place. After this if you really want to clean out the application and all its registry entries you will need to use a cleaning tool such as Ashampoo (available free for 30 days use from This will clean out all instances of Adobe from your system. It scans the system and then presents a list of things to delete and gives you the option of whether to delete or keep the so you will not lose anything valuable to you.

Having used the application many times I bought a licensed copy and have been using it for several years with no problems ever on many PCs with Win 2003, XP and Vista.

Try downloading Revo uninstaller (free) uninstall Adobe reader I presume we are talking just the reader, typical Adobe is very big so more to go wrong. follow the instruction, the beauty of Revo is that it uses Adobe to uninstall then it jumps in to remove Adobe leftovers in your registry, hopefully this way it will bypass "patch cannot be verified"
Download Foxit Reader it only ways in at 10Mb

I get a notice to update Adobe reader. However the updatw will not install and I get a notice to go to Adobe repair error 1500. Help

I wouldn't bother with the repair functions. It will be quicker to uninstall the reader completely, and go to Adobe site, download and install the latest version.
When uninstalling, make sure you uninstall the Adobe Download Manager as well, so you'll get a new version installed together with the reader.

Good luck, and please come back with a rating/testimonial if helped :)

Hi, if you keep getting a "error code" from the Adobe Reader; do the following. First, click on the [Start Button], select to open the "Control Panel {shortcut}." In the next window, select the [Uninstall a Program ] applet, next scroll to find the "Adobe Reader" highlight it to "Uninstall." Next, follow the instructions to complete the removal of the program. Once the Adobe Reader, is removed "restart the computer." The next thing to do is "Reinstall the Adobe Reader," click on this site to get the "Download" of the New Software. Completely uninstall Adobe Reader and download the full version Adobe's website. It sounds like one of the files is corrupt. Uninstalling it first should allow you to bypass the problem and install the latest version.
