Question about Logitech LX5 Cordless Optical Mouse
Don't know about the different surfaces problem, but the batteries...I had similar problem with duracell charger/rechargeables and my digital camera. I bought new batteries, charged them up and they didn't last long at all. I finally bought a brand new charger and batteries and they work great as they should. Maybe the charger is bad or try cleaning the charger battery contacts with pencil eraser to see if that helps. Also, some devices work best with "normal" batteries.

Tips for a great answer:
You can either buy a plastic/glass cover to fit the top of
your desk and cover the surface, or you can fix it yourself with a little
sanding and varnish. Here's a site that
can take you through the necessary steps.
