Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

My Philips 26 inch CRT TV has started switching itself off regularly. Immediately prior to this starting we noticed quite bad picture distortion on the vertical plane (bowing in from the sides like an hourglass). Can this be fixed (and is it worth it)?

Distorted sound / fuse blows off when changing amp class.

The class A switch adjusts, via an optocoupler, the bias on the output transistors.
I would check the standard bias and class A bias adjustments.

My optonica(india)26 inch CRT TV has started switching itself off regularly after 1 hour viewing and restarts after 1 hour gap. Can this be fixed (and is it worth it)?

Check its timer settings. If timer settings has been set to 1 hour, this type of fault can occur. If timer setting is set to [0.00] and even if the TV behaves so, surely there will be some loose solder terminals in the horizontal output or main power regulator section. Resolder all the suspected solder terminals, by applying a little more solder. Check this site named Electro-help. Some of the faults like this are described in detail there. Pull up older posts. After a household power blips during bad weather, we have horizontal lines ....

Unfortunately there isn't any way to repair your tv as the magnet has distorted the tube that is in the tv and with CRT becoming obsolete the repair is likely to be very costly so probably your chaepest option is to buy a new tv .

Picture problem, top few inches.

hi you can get a service manual which includes schematic from this site:    http://www.download.nitd.co.uk/news.php      you will have to register with them before you can download it, but this is free.   Plus you will probably you will have to download  another free program to (shareware) to decompress and read the rar. files  I used  the one for xpwindows:  http://downloads.zdnet.com/download.aspx?&docid=284618&promo=100510

Tv showing blue screen with flyback lines sound ok

Flyback lines? Is the picture all white with no brightness control with faint horizontal faint lines? If this is what you are saying, the screen voltage could be bad, and if thats the case, the picture tube or the flyback itself could be bad. You could also have a bad connection on the crt socket
