Question about JVC HD-61FH97 61" Television

I'm having a truly bizarre issue with my tv! THe

I'm having a truly bizarre issue with my tv! THe jvc hd61fh97 is my first high def tv. When i got it i had to upgrade my dvr/cable box to high def as well. This was almost 3 years ago in november 2006. Within a month of getting the new tv and dvr/cable box i noticed problems with the dvr malfunctioning. At first the amount of hours it would hold started to diminish from 40 hours down until eventually all it would hold was 7 hours. I traded out the box and soon after the new box developed the same problems. As of today - 9/12/09 - i have had 17 boxes with constant probelms of shows deleting as soon as they finish recording, shows only recording a minute of the show, shows saying they are recording when they are not... This is a constant and ongoing problem. THe cable company tells me the tv is somehow creating a feedback into the cable boxes that is destroying the buffers in the box causing all these problems. I have had the line cable replaced and the electrical wiring to the tv is new as well. I do have the extended warrenty on the tv but they say it is the cable line and the cable company says it is not the line. I tend to believe the cable people now since everything on this end has been replaced and the only common denominator is the tv. I NEVER had this issue at all until this tv came into the house. I've never heard of anybody else having this problem. I am getting no answers or real help from either the cable people or the tv warrenty people. One way to find out for sure if this is coming from the tv is to get a different tv and hook it up to see if the problem continues or not. Can anybody help me with this extremely frustrating problem?? thanks

dave

First of all , your TV is good, the DVR from that company are bad. the solution will be to replace with an other brand of DVr and see if the problem still there

That cable doesn't exist. You can't just shoot electrons into one end of a copper cable and have light come out the other end.

Treat your TV like the primary user of the Hi-Def Video ONLY, not the source of any audio. Ask yourself, does it really NEED to be in an audio chain if it doesn't tune the station off the air?

Your JVC should be the primary destination of high-end audio, directly from, say, the Cable Box' while the Hi-Def video is sent to the TV.

Zigzagging good audio and video through the room to devices that don't need it is expensive and wasteful, plus it adds complexity and unnecessary connections that add nothing but could fail.

Model LG52LG70 has a problem when switching from High Definition channels to non-high definition channels, and vice a versa. The tv simply shuts off, pauses for 10 seconds and then turns on. Time warner...

Any high def TV will momentarily go blank when changing from High Def to normal mode. Ten seconds is an abnormally long time for that to take place. If you still have a warranty on the TV I suggest you take it in to have it serviced. Otherwise you will have to pay to have this item checked out. There are a number of issues that might be causing the problem so it will be necessary to have a technician check it out.

Tv turns on and has sound but no picture. Only black screen, the menu from the cable or dvd cannot be seen.

Make sure your using a cable box that is compatible with a high def tv, if your tuning a high def channel and your converter does not support high def, it will only play the sound, no vidio at all.

Powersurge made my HD setting revert to low def.

Your TV plays High Def material through either Input 4 (uses component cables R,G,B) or through Input 5 (Uses DVI cable).
Today most equipment uses HDMI cable for High Def or it may have a component (RGB) output that you can use. The DVI hookup is best, so you need a HDMI to DVI cable or Component Cables (Red, Green, Blue). You need some source that OUTPUTS High def (ex. 1080i) either through HDMI or component cable. You need to either connect the component cable(R,G,B) from the source to the Input 4 on the TV or connect the HDMI to DVI cable from the source to the Input 5.
You need to set the AV source on the TV to AV5 (if you are using the DVI input) or AV4 (if you are using component cables).
If you want to play Highdef source like Blue Ray then you can just connect the output of the blu ray player to your Tv using either the HDMI to DVI cable or component cable (Red, Green, Blue) and set the TV input to AV5 (for HDMI/DVI) or AV4 (for component).
But if you are trying to get Free High Def from an antenna then you will need to have a component that can OUTPUT high def. The $40 converter boxes don't do this - they simply convert the Digital signal to Analog (non high def). What you need is a High Def TUNER that OUTPUTS High Def. I was looking for one for this same reason and ordered the centronics ZAT 502 HD. But it cost about $80. Then I saw that Tivo had an upgrade deal where I could upgrade my existing Series 2 Tivo to Tivo HD for $99. It has a High Def Tuner in it. So I cancelled my order with Centronics and got the Tivo. In any case if you want Over the air HD you will need a High Def Tuner that will OUTPUT 1080.
