If this is a USB unit, and you have moved the plug from one port to another, this situation occurs. I would disconnect it, reboot the PC and reconnect it again.
Good luck!

When you state that the drive works well on your laptop, I start thinking whether you've used some software that has locked 'ownership' of this drive. Try going back to whatever software you used last, and either complete whatever you were doing (backing up, copying, etc), and disconnect the drive using the proper method, clicking on the icon on the system tray. Once you see the message that says that 'the device can now be disconnected safely', try using it on the PC.

Windows XP and newer generations have this behaviour when during installation you choose to have 'personalized' folders and other components, in order to protect your privacy.

Are you using a different user ID (than the one you use on the laptop) when you log onto the PC? To further help you solve your problem, I hope you do, and then log on with Administrator rights to the PC. If you were the first user of this machine, or if you were the person who installed windows on it, then you're the default system administrator.

    Please advice and good luck!

I dropped my WD Passport on the floor and it got disconnected from the usb cord drive cable, when I plugged it all back in and plugged it on my pc it doesn't shop up anymore, how do I fix it?

Sadly you don't.
Dropping a hard drive and having it still work is something you should never expect.
You could pry the case open and put the drive it in an empty external drive case and see if it works, or try a new cable, but the most delicate part is the drive mechanism itself, and if anythings broken, that is most probably it.
You could probably get a replacement, maybe not WD, for around $60 and one I got on special $70 including postage from an online seller a few weeks ago had a 500GB WD drive in it.

My hard disk is western digital 500GB sata blue caviar 16MB 7200RPM .... it stopped working toady with no reason, it was working fine yesterday night, when i wake up today i found its not working any more...

> stopped working toady (froggy? today?)

It "died" -- either the electronic circuit-board "under" the "spinning" part of the disk-drive has short-circuited, or the motor that spins the recording surfaces has quit.

You've tried it on another computer -- so you've done all that you can.

Any 500GB disk-drive is likely to still be under the W.D. warranty.
Open the enclosure, and get the model-number and serial-number from the label on the disk-drive.
Then, access the W.D. web-site, and click "check warranty status", and enter that information.
If the warranty is valid, W.D. will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

If the warranty has expired, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- purchase a new W.D. device from the W.D. web-site, and you qualify for a good discount on your purchase.

Or, remove the disk-drive from the enclosure, buy a replacement, compatible, disk-drive, and "transplant" it into the enclosure, to create a working external storage device.

My computer wont recognize the drive or allow me to reformat my passport.

Try downloading the device driver from western digital site for your respective OS. And try formatting it with the western digital inbuilt software, which works great.

Harddrive not being acknowledged by laptop

This is a hard one, as 7 is so new. But it sounds like the very next thing to do is to plug the drive into another computer to see if the drive is working properly. If it works well, make sure that your drive is not trying to grab a drive letter that is already being used by another device. Do a search on the MS website for known issues and instructions on how to check for drive letter management issues. Good luck.

WD 500 GB Passport Formatting error

you may have a FAT32/NTFS format problem between your wd500 and your pc. or differently formatted partitions. right click on their device letters on 'my computer' and look at 'properties'. should tell you how they're formatted and # of partitions, etc.
just a guess!

The port of my Western Digital Passport damaged

You can open the case, and access the harddrive inside it. I found there are videos explaining the process on youtube. You can also find some info on Google. You'd then need either a USB SATA adapter, or a desktop computer with a SATA port that's not already occupied. Search for: western digital passport open case
