Your graphics card/driver is likely causing this behavior

I had this same problem when I swapped out my two 19" 4:3 for two acer p205h, specifically on the vga attached monitor. (The dvi attached unit showed black, but I could at least see the cursor movement on it.)

After some snooping, I figured out my GeForce GT 240 video card (vga dvi hdmi) defaulted the primary display to the only display still hooked up as I was swapping out (my 32" Sylvania 720p hdtv via hdmi, which was on

(Sorry, didn't know it would truncate my post.)

... [which was on] & in tv mode, not hdmi).

Solution--I used the hdtv for initial primary, then proceeded to make extended, make primary, disable until I got the following combo:

    dvi--primary

    vga--extended

    hdmi--disabled.

Rebooted to confirm and indeed, problem solved.

Please make sure that the screen is set to receive a Digital signal, for DVI a connection. There's usually a set of buttons on the bezel to get to the setup menu on most new LCD units.
Good luck!

Depending upon the video port/s you have on the graphics card, you need to connector one video cable, either the DVI or the 15pin DSub to the monitor.

No signal

Press the Function Button to open the short cut menu. Locate the Input graphic and press the button for it. Each time you press the button, it will cycle between DVI and VGA input jacks. Allow a few seconds for the display to switch inputs. Make sure that cable is connected securely to the associated jack in the back of the monitor and the computer (or other source). If either VGA or DVI input is selected ,but the VGA and DVI cables are not connected, a floating dialog box indicates:

"No Cable Connect" or "No Signal"

Acer Aspire 5536 only gives black screen when i connect power supply

  • Nothing is more annoying than a monitor that refuses to turn on. Make sure your Acer monitor is plugged in to a functioning outlet. If it's plugged into a power strip, try replacing it with a new one or moving the plug to a different outlet. Ensure that both ends of the power cable are plugged in firmly and securely, and that the connection to the monitor is not loose.
Cable Issues
  • Your Acer LCD monitor will usually accept DVI and VGA inputs. If you have an older computer, a VGA cable should work fine. If it doesn't have a VGA port, you'll need to obtain an inexpensive DVI to VGA adapter at your local computer store. A DVI cable, however, is compatible with most modern computers and offers superior picture quality over VGA. Make sure you're using the cable that's compatible with your system, and that you have the proper conversion adapter, if necessary.

My Acer X193w. My monitor comes on and says cable not connected but when I connect the VGA cable the screen goes black even though it is still on.

VGA is an analog connection, so you should connect it to your monitor BEFORE starting up the PC. Otherwise it won't show anything

Connectivity card from montior to CPU is different than other PCs, in back side of the monitor its showing to type VGA and other one DVi connector, In my CPU i dont have the slot for the DVi connector,...

DVI ==> Digital Video Input
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs,
and your PC's video-card has both DVI and VGA outputs,
then buy a DVI-to-DVI cable, and use it, for a better picture.
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs,
and your PC's video-card only has VGA output,
then use a VGA-to-VGA cable.
Or, purchase a video-card with DVI output,
to replace the video-card with VGA output,
and then use a DVI-to-DVI cable.

How can i use my acer monitor as a tv i lost my manual

The manual won't help you to much in this regard.
This monitor is a standard type that has both a VGA and DVI input.
Normally what you would use with a personal computer.

If you want to use it as a TV monitor you will have some sort of device that outputs to VGA or DVI.
DVI stands for "Digital Visual Interface" and it's preferable over VGA as it should potentially give you a better image.

This means:
A) A computer. You can build your own media TV and watch internet streamed shows like Hulu, Netfix, use as a DVD player, etc. I recommend this route. No more dependance on Cable companies! You just need internet.
B) Find a DVD, and, or Tuner/Cable/Satellite box that has these outputs.
If you want to use Cable or Satellite, contact your provider company and see if they have a box that will output to either VGA or DVI. Might have a hard time finding one of these, or it might cost more then it's worth.
C) Buy a S-Video input to VGA/DVI output. You can buy these for around $40.
Then you should be able to hook it up to just about any device as most modern TV devices will have an S-Video outputs.
