Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Can't Connect to Xbox Live / Can't Receive Update

Turned on Xbox 360 and tried to log in to my Live ID. Message pops up saying an update is available and "required" (even tho I have the new dashboard for months) to download. I hit continue and a screen pops up explaining that the Update is going to be retreived and may cause a restart. Only a few seconds later, a message pops up saying "can't connect to Live" and to try testing the connections in the System settings. I do so, and console connects to my network and internet no problem. As it starts indicating connection to Live I get the "Update Required" dialog again. I have repeatedly tried to get past this, but nothing seems to work. I disconnected power to all devices, restarted everything... Nothing works. Tried online support but they don't even have this particular problem listed in their FAQs.

Try looking at your wireless connection and in this case try deleting your orginal connection and creating a new connection

It sounds like you've refused an Xbox Live Update at some point.
You can go into your system options and see if there's an update available.
To check for an update on the Xbox 360 you basically force a new Xbox Live connection:
  1. Press the Guide button (center logo button), bringing up the pop-up menu
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Select System Settings
  4. Select Network Settings
  5. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network if you're on wifi
  6. Select Test Xbox Live Connection
  7. Select Yes if prompted to update. If you're not prompted and the test completes successfully, you have the most recent update.
If that doesn't work try this link http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/927749-xbox-360/67807343

Console update did not install successfully?

If her system says that she needs an update then likely her connection should be getting to Live. You might need to clear her cache first and then try the steps above. Here is how you will clear your cache:

To clear the system cache

  1. Go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Memory.
  3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller.
(It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)
  4. Select Clear System Cache.
  5. When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes:

My xbox 360 dosent want to update

The new update for 360's launch of Kinect is causing problems. I fixed mine by going into System Settings, Network settings, then running a test on xbox live. Initiating the test logs your profile out then runs a network test. The test completed with no problems and then asked me if I wanted to update again. Without logging back into my profile I clicked OK and the update ran without a hitch. I think the solution lies in the fact that my profile was logged out and from what I have seen, the only way to connect to xbox live without a profile being logged in is with a network test. Once you connect to xbox live it senses that you don't have the update and asks you again, this time without a profile logged in and you are able to do it.
