What is it doing specifically. Is the freezer and the frigeration part working? Does it have a water spicket as well? If so, does that work?

As long as the ice trays are filling with water, it's not actually the function of the ice maker to make ice. Ice simply forms because the freezer compartment is cold.

The icemaker's function is to sense when ice is formed in the trays and to dump the ice into its container.

This requires the use of a thermostat to sense the water/ice temperture and 'tell' the icemaker when it's time to dump the ice.

During the dump cycle, a heater briefly comes on as the arm swings through the ice cube compartments to assist in loosening the ice cubes and make them easy to dump.

If the icemaker is filling with water but you get no ice, I suspect that either the control circuit (thermostat, relays, and wiring) is not 'telling' the heater to come on, or the heater is burned out.

Some units also have a timer circuit such that both the timer contacts and the thermostat contacts must be close in order to initiate a dump cycle (i.e., it must be time to dump and the water in the cubicles must be frozen).

A skilled homeowner could make these repairs, but if you don't feel comfortable taking your icemaker apart and testing the components, I advise leaving the job to a qualified repairman.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Whirlpool gss26c5xyy ice maker not making ice, but will dispense ice and also will dispense water.

Andrea, make sure you are getting water to your ice maker. Most common ice maker problems are caused by lack of water. There is a water valve( dual) that feeds your water dispenser and ice maker that could be the culprit. Even if you are getting water out the door the valve can still be bad( separate water lines)..
Second thing to check are your optics( It measures ice level in your bin. If they are defective it will trick your ice maker into thinking its full of ice and not produce anymore.) They are located on the freezer walls just below ice maker..

Good luck

Ice maker not making ice. When pressing the test button will start to make some and then beep about 3 times, then does not produce anymore ice.

Do not use test button. It test the functions of the board only. You have another issue. Need to know the number of beeps. Usually beeps a certain number of times, then hesitates, then beeps again.

ICE MAKER

Your ice maker works off a different side than the water dispenser. Most times the water control valve is the problem yet it has 2 sides one for water and the other for ice. You can check the ice maker by filling with tap water. Let it freeze and if it dumps the ice and tries to refill I would say the water control valve part number 4389177 will need to be replaced. The ice maker does not make anymore ice.It looks like the ice tray position upside down.I need help.

Hi

If the ice maker has completely stopped producing ice, then check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

When an ice maker is producing ice poorly--when it produces just a few cubes or none, or when the cubes are too small--it's usually because of a clogged water line or a defective water inlet valve.

First, check the water line attached to the back of the refrigerator for good water flow. To do that, first turn off the water supply valve. Then remove the water line from the back of the refrigerator. Next, place the water line into a bucket and momentarily turn the water valve back on to test the flow. If the flow is poor, you need to repair, clean, or replace the tubing or the shut-off valve that supplies the water. If the flow is good, you may have to replace the water inlet valve.

Please do rate the solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

I want to install my icemaker it is not working

Pour some water into the icemaker and wait for a sign of ice production. If it makes a batch then fails to produce anymore then check that water valve. If it does tose out any ice at all then check that ice makers connection or get another. Give that puppy 24 hours to start making ice. Read more

Whirlpool gold moder GC5SHEXN503 side by side-ice maker not producing ice anymore--water dispenser works fine--laser lites seem ok---no ice jam--no water filling ice molds

Put some water in the ice maker and see if it will kick a batch out. If it does make a batch but does not make any more then replace the water valve. NOTE: the water valve is a dual purpose valve that supplys water in the door and supplys the ice maker. If the ice maker does not kick out a batch then something is wrong with the ice maker. One easy component to replace is the ice mold thermostat.

Have you reset the power? Is the bin fully inserted in the cavity? Are there any shutoff or bin full indicators that are not in the run position?
