  • crunch18 Dec 11, 2007

I took out the tonner, and theres plenty of ink all around where the tonner fits. I dont see any kind of roller. Its very dark inside and im not sure of what im supposed to be looking for. I saw the picture of the drum roller...am i supposed to remove the whole drum kit?? How do i clean the space where the toner fits in. Its literally full of ink. Maybe when i removed the tonner, some fell in?? Help :(

This is the NP 6016 MOdel...its over 12 years old. Theres no warranty on it. How do i clean the drum kit? Do i have to remove the entire drum kit? I mean isnt it supposed to have ink in the drum kit spill over a little. I mean the actual tonner spills the ink somewhere...and im dont if its not normal for ink to spill in the inside of the drum kit?? please help??

Hi there, had a smiliar problem in the office this week all three printer having the same issue, black lines, all related to the drum kit, either being covered in ink, or in once case it had a break in the roller.

have a look at this pic, its the drum roller for your printer, amazon link

It is normally sits under the printer toner, take the toner out and you should have access to the unit the tonner fits into, if you look at it closly you should see the roller see if you find any telling signs of ink residue/or cracks on it. If you do its most likely the problem.

Hope it helps

Wow. sounds like your toner spilt some of it contents. The best bet is to clean it with a dry cloth, but i would advise you contact canon, if the printer is under warranty they should come and service it. The problem may or may not be isolated to just the drum kit, could be the toner leakage, or something else.

    Hope it helps

Canon IR 2870 copy with a thick black line in the middle of the page.

There are three possible sources of black lines on copies: the original, the scanning process and the printing process. As a general rule, if the line only appears on some documents, the source is the original. If the copier is also a printer but the lines only appear when copying, the source is the scanning. if the lines always appear, the source is a defect in printing. Since black lines can be intermittent, it is best to check all possible sources.

Faint lines on the original might be more obvious on copies. Adjust contrast and brightness settings to reduce the appearance of lines. Lines at the edges of copies can be due to an original being smaller than the copy. Set the copier to enlarge the original, so the edges of the original are outside the edges of the copy, to eliminate these lines. If the original has folds, creases or pasted-on sections, ensure the original is as flat as possible.
Clean the copier glass, using a glass cleaning product. All rollers and belts should also be cleaned, and trays vacuumed, to ensure dust is not carried onto the glass. Copiers with a document feeder move the original past a small area of the document glass. As the original moves, a single speck of dust in this area will cause a line on the copy, from top to bottom. When copying, always ensure the original is completely dry, including any correction fluid and pen markings. https://www.instantprintersupport.com/

Black line scan

Open the scanner lid and clean the narrow glass in the left-hand part of the scanning area. Look for remains from ink or corrector at the far end and wipe them out. The narrow glass should be entirely clear to make good copies from the feeder.

Black stripes on copies using a Canon D1120

Do you use the Doc. feeder? Try to make a copy off the copy board glass. Is the line there? Now make a copy with the adf. Is the line there? If so, you need to clean the small glass under the doc feeder. It looks like a glass ****, about a 1/2 inch wide. Clean it with windex and that should solve your line problem...

Black at the bottom of scanned pages

There should not be a thick black line at the bottom, but could be from several things, light coming in from somewhere is my first guess, toner is almost out or the ribbon is getting stuck on the inside at that point. You may have to call Cannon and ask them.
