Ice dispenser won't work, light won't work.ge side by side fridge

I have a ge side by side fridge with the water and ice dispenser. about a month ago the little light bulb on the door by the ice dispenser blew. The last couple of weeks the ice flap thing wouldn't open to let the ice out. I bought new light bulb for it tonight. I put the new bulb in and turned the light on. the light still won't work, but now the ice flap thing will open so you can use the ice dispenser. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you in advance

A GE uses a 12 volt bulb . It will not come on , if you went and bought a bulb with the same receptical end . HAS to be a 12 volt .

GE Fridge water dispenser working but not the ice

Yes you most likely have a defective dual water control valve. Look around the inside of the refrigerator for a model number.

  • Bottom Freezer
Once you find the model number I will be able to tell you what part number the dual dual water control valve is or if your ice maker assist you in testing ice maker. If ice Maker is empty try filling with tap water to top edges of ice maker, allow water to freeze and if the ice drops into the ice bin but does not refill with water automatically I would say that the dual water control valve will need replaced. If your ice maker has old shrinking ice from a few days ago it will point to an ice maker problem.

Ice and Water not dispensing. Light button not working

    http://www.repairclinic.com/0100_1.asp
There's an ice- or water-dispensing problem The ice and water-dispensing system of your refrigerator is quite complex. Many components work together to provide the ice and water. Aside from a simple problem of a leaky water tube or a jammed ice chute, most other components are not user serviceable. We suggest that you contact a qualified appliance repair technician for such repairs.

    1. Ice and water dispenser quit working
    2. Howling noise 12 hours out of the day
