The soot is coming from the flame at the gas heater box the drier needs to be converted to propane the flame is too large without the conversion kit installed and thus creates soot at the vent. contact a local repair place for this one it can be tricky.

Best way to remove black grease from fabric?

Removing grease is fairly easy but removing black grease, perhaps not easy at all - you have to consider what is in the grease to make it black, which could be molybdenum disulphide, graphite, carbon or any sort of general dirt, the particles of which are likely to be so fine as to act like a dye and leave a stain.

Depends also on the size of the grease spot and the fabric and what is available to you.

After carefully scraping as much grease from the surface of the fabric as you can it can then be either sponged with white gas or left to soak with a solvent based jelly type hand cleaner such as Swarfega or Klix worked well into the fabric just covering the grease spot.

Once it has soaked for a few hours, scrape off the excess and then sponge with white gas using a wad of absorbent paper or similar as backing and turning the cloth several times to sponge from the back and replacing the pad as required.

Once as much of the grease spot has been removed as possible the fabric can be laundered as normal, though dry cleaning is likely to be most successful though a boil wash could be superior if the fabric is able to be boil-washed, perhaps using some laundry bleach.

3 year old Amana NED 7200 dryer has film of black grease in drum back portion and grease is on clothes after coming out of dryer.

Check the thermostats for continuity. Sounds like the dryer is getting to hot and may have melted something. There is nothing with grease in that area of the dryer,

My Duet Whirlpool Dryer (had this #8519498) has burning smell

I am not the Dryer fixin' trade...but I have this dryer. To me, it sounds like it overheating or the heater unit has become lose from its hold rack. I would MOST definitely have a pro look at it and do NOT leave the dryer unattended...It may be a possible fire hazzard
